Jon Pop Posted May 21, 2013 Share #1 Posted May 21, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I noticed when shooting my M9 at high ISO that a fine line appears along the edge, very thin and similar to a scratch on a negative. It's perfectly straight, and I actually think it's part of the edge of the sensor showing up, since I examined the sensor and thought I could see this faintly on the one edge. But I'd like to know everyone's thoughts....is it sensor cracking? See the attached photo...ISO2000, crop of the one edge of the picture (the right edge of a landscape orientation). It runs vertically down on the right side of this photo, at the point of the little white dot (which is either dust or a dead pixel?). Anyone experienced this before or have any insights? My M9 has always been well cared for, about 15,000 actuations on it. Help!!! Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 Hi Jon Pop, Take a look here M9 Sensor "line". I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted May 21, 2013 Share #2 Posted May 21, 2013 Yes -the issue has been discussed ad nauseam in this - and many other- photographic forums. This is caused by a pixel defect and the camera must be sent in for sensor remapping.
Jon Pop Posted May 21, 2013 Author Share #3 Posted May 21, 2013 Jaap: The vertical line has been discussed "ad nauseum" or the bad pixel? I've read a lot about the occasional bad pixels and the remapping, streaking, etc....never an ultrafine line that looked more like a film scratch. As I said, when I look at the sensor I can actually see a fine line almost at the edge but on both sides; it only shows up on the one side in images however, at high ISO. jaapv Posted May 21, 2013 Share #4 Posted May 21, 2013 (edited) Yes - it has, it is a result of a bad pixel. No problem, remapping can be done. http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m9-forum/258202-problem-mm-white-line.html http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m9-forum/283308-m9-bad-pixel-4-times.html http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m9-forum/264167-vertical-lines.html http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m8-forum/209418-sensor-stripes.html etc. etc.... However, if you can see mechanical damage on the sensor that would indicate a sensor replacement. It would probably be the result of sensor cleaning, rather unlikely though. Jon Pop Posted May 21, 2013 Author Share #5 Posted May 21, 2013 Thanks Jaap! My sensor hasn't actually been cleaned yet, by me or anyone else (believe it or not, I've been very lucky and have only a very slight amount of dust visible in the usual "bright sky at f11" pictures). It's time I sent the M9 back to the mothership anyways for a general cleaning, and also probably make sure my 50 'Lux Asph is perfectly calibrated with it/vice versa, I also have a bit of peeling of the leatherette on the edge of the screen, etc. I just hope the turnaround time will be reasonable! cheers!
