Advertisement Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 Hi stunsworth, Take a look here Flickr changes. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
nggalai Posted May 21, 2013 Share #2 Posted May 21, 2013 Also, the old Pro subscription is no more. There’s two upgrade possibilities from free accounts: Doublr (same as free, +1TB space) and Flickr Pro (unlimited storage space, no Ads, plus stats). When a current Pro subscription expires, it won’t renew automatically, so your account will revert to the Free type and you can purchase an upgrade if you’re so inclined. Until your old Pro subscription expires, features remain the same as before. I’m not too fond of the new look, but I probably just need some getting used to. It will be interesting what’s up Yahoo’s sleeve, especially regarding their current purchase of tumblr. Seems as if they go at the whole community / social web at a different angle than Facebook and Google.

bill Posted May 21, 2013 Share #4 Posted May 21, 2013 Its like watching an ignorant child pull the wings off a butterfly. They know not what they have done. I used to be able to decide how my photos were presented. No more. And it's buggy, with broken links and dead-ends. EXIF is now multiple clicks away. A style over substance makeover for the Millennials that assumes everyone is on yesterday's tech - a full-size iPad. Bollocks. danvanmoll Posted May 21, 2013 Share #5 Posted May 21, 2013 I like the new looks but that's probably a matter of taste (and time to get used to it). Feels a little like 500px.com now. I wonder in how far they'll implement Tumblr with Flickr (the names feel like they've always been connected anyway) and vice versa. Anyone tried the Flickr Uploadr yet? And do you know if the Aperture uploader is affected? Or are those just design changes?
250swb Posted May 21, 2013 Share #6 Posted May 21, 2013 (edited) Like anything new I didn't like it at first. I think a viewer coming to my Flickr photostream gets a much better presentation of my pictures, and that's the important thing. What is very important is to change that awful stock agency banner photo for one of your own. Steve Edited May 21, 2013 by 250swb
danvanmoll Posted May 21, 2013 Share #7 Posted May 21, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) What is very important is to change that awful stock agency banner photo for one of your own. The very first thing I did. But it still feels buggy. The "edit" page has the old looks which feels like they ran out of time to adjust this to the new layout. The bottom link on that page says "Did you know you can change the layout of this page?" but leads to a 404 page. Work in progress.
stunsworth Posted May 21, 2013 Author Share #8 Posted May 21, 2013 It puts pressure on 500px to rethink their ridiculous recent price increase. The new $49.99 account on Flickr gives ad free browsing, but more importantly for some, removes the 300 MB monthly limit on uploads. Won't bother me as I've no intention of uploading hi-res images, but others may be affected by it. Interesting that with a 300 MB upload limit it would take approx 250 years to use up your terabyte of storage if you used all 300 every month <grin>. MPerson Posted May 21, 2013 Share #9 Posted May 21, 2013 I have been on there since 2006 but stopped posting images, several years ago, after the fiasco one weekend when a start-up stock photo agency used a Bot to download a rather large amount of images. I am more worried what they will do to Tumblr!
danvanmoll Posted May 21, 2013 Share #10 Posted May 21, 2013 Now that I've spent some time with the new Flickr I'd like to revoke my first comment. For some odd reason they've changed many graphics into plain text (e.g. "Favorites") and even removed the map display (you have to click on the map link). It's just small things I don't like, but they pile up...
rramesh Posted May 21, 2013 Share #11 Posted May 21, 2013 I am getting to like 500px with its new portfolios. See my site below. (work in progress as I am still learning CSS).
earleygallery Posted May 21, 2013 Share #12 Posted May 21, 2013 I've hardly ever used Flickr but with the new free memory allowance I think I might use it more - on first look the new presentation seems a step backwards however.

stunsworth Posted May 21, 2013 Author Share #14 Posted May 21, 2013 New wallpaper in an old room... Maybe, but they've made the room much larger for most of us. I also happen to thing that the new portfolio page is better if you want to get an overview of a new photographer - and at least they didn't crop the photos like 500px did when they tried something similar. However, I'd certainly like to change the default background for an individual photo from black.
JeTexas Posted May 21, 2013 Share #15 Posted May 21, 2013 In my opinion the photos look much nicer -- obviously higher resolution, but the page itself is much harder to navigate.

stunsworth Posted May 21, 2013 Author Share #20 Posted May 21, 2013 Yes I agree the portfolio page is better but the sets page thumbnails are cropped Facebook style. I'd give it a while to see how it develops. If they can crop the photo to a square, then they should be able to show the whole photo in the same square.
