Hello, just a quick question for those who got an M already! Would you mind let me know the weight of the bottom plate?

I'm interesting in getting RRS replacement plate, but since I only do tripod work (on M) less than half of the time I'm not sure if I want to carry extra weight and bulk. The universal B9 plate seems to be a great alternative with the exception of having to carry a wrench in the bag.

:D I'll also post back if I got any new information from RRS!

Hi,

I purchased the RRS L-plate for my M9 but I only use the bottom plate. It takes no time at all to get used to it. There is no weight difference felt. And it is there for anytime that I wish to use it on a tripod, for instance on those occasions when I want to use my 135 Elmarit. I do not use the 'L' part of the plate -- it is awkward and would only be useful if one where to always use the camera on a tripod.

I just carry the RSS Bottom Plate in my kit and use it like the universal plate. I only attach it when needed for a tripod shot. Otherwise I keep the Leica bottom plate on the camera. In this way, its simply the universal plate with a custom fit and twice as fast to install. (+ its tool less)

According to RRS it seems to be 3oz, so the weight isn't that much different than the stock plate! There are production models coming up in few weeks so I guess we will have the specification up soon!

The only down side is that it adds maximum of 1cm to the overall height of the M240 - but I think the way suggested by digitalfx seems to get the best of both world.

:D I'll be getting one I think!

Really? 85g - 50g (which will be removed) = 35g, seems to be the same as the lightest Arca plate out there :D

I do not have brand loyalty and in fact some of their product just miss some of those universal appeal but apparently it is the only company that made a custom "tool-less" one so far.

Their tripod are one of the best - no doubt about that~

Yes, really. I have one on order, ordered first day. Also owned the M9 plate. That doesnt change the fact that its nearly double the weight as the Leica bottom plate AND double the size.

you're right - I miss that part... Indeed 85g is still hella heavier than the original :(

Size is something that I feel the same with you - why can't they slim it down??

its just a limitation of the design. The M9 plate was large also. Its still much more convenient than the universal plate and a better fit
