In France we have also the same phenomenon

The neighborhood shops close one by one and people prefer to go to the supermarket bought products of low quality in general, but it is true a bit cheaper (but not on all products)

 

In France in recent years and it is very recent , shops begin to return in the neighborhoods.

Personally I did not want to do miles and miles to buy my products. For fresh vegetables and fruits I go to the outdoor market near my home.
