Tony -

Thank you. Former Citicorp chairman Walter Wriston commissioned the Citicorp Center on Lexington Avenue between 53rd and 54th Streets. Since it's top resembled a whistle, and since WW authorized the building it acquired a slightly known nickname of Walt's Whistle. Eventually Wriston's successor sold it to Japanese investors with the proviso that Citicorp Center would remain the building's name. Citi moved its headquarters across the East River to Long Island City, which at that time was fairly depressed. Now that newer tower is just one of many new buildings to have rejuvenated Long Island City.
