Here is my contrarian point of view.

The dark image seems like a scene out of a bad dream.

I bet if you lightened up the tree and foreground a bit that would also be a great but cheerful image.

Thank you! Much appreciated, as always. I have boundless love and admiration for these oaks and try to convey their majesty at every chance I get (and always find it a challenge to do so...)

 

K.-H., thank you for inpiring me to take another look at this image. When I made the image, I had this silouette in mind as the strong afternoon sun was directly behind the tree, and this is practically what I was seeing.

 

I don't know if I succeeded in lightening it up (it looks a little washed out to me) but here is a try:

I really like this shot. Both versions are interesting but give two different feelings when viewed.
