28mm f2 Summicron stiff focusing ring normal?

I handled a new (demo) copy of this lens today. The focusing ring seemed quite stiff, unlike my other lenses. Is this normal? I suppose that it could loosen up in use, but presumably that relies on wear, or spreading the internal lubricant, neither of which sound attractive.

There is no 21/2 summicron to my knowing. Only summicron with 2xmm is the 28 cron.

If u mean that one, my copie is good smooth from the first day

If the lens hasn't been used for a couple of years especially if it is nearly new, it will usually get quite stiff. After some use it will usually become as smooth as you could hope. I bought a NOS 75 Summilux about 15 years ago that had sat around in the store for 8+ years, and got a good deal because it was so stiff. After some months it got smooth and easy, and is now my smoothest lens. I don't shy away from stiff lenses; just ones with uneven and 'catchy' focussing action. Even those often get better with use.

jrb-That stiff lens might loosen up as henning mentions, but if it is a demo you can always send it in to Leica for adjustment at no charge if under warranty.
