I upgraded (= replaced) my PC with a 64-bit Windows set-up to take advantage of the Lightroom offer with the M9. The monitor's display is greatly improved but the B9180 printer's new driver has lost several valuable features as a consequence of the change to 64-bit.

Has anybody also encountered this problem, or, better still, solved it?

I had the same issue with my HP Photosmart D6160 : loss of driver functions with Win64... no solution : I have good links with HP for other professional reasons and even made an inside investigation : no way to overcome... I only gained a deep technical explanation about why it is like this (which, as I suspected, is indeed not a strictly technical reason but a business one... related to the kind of contracts to software subcontractors, which limit, de facto, the lifecycle of drivers' development and support for such families of peripherals... a complex 3-parts schema of agreement between Hp, the subcontractor, and Microsoft).

As always, quickly said, it's all about forcing consumers to change their hardware, even if still working and still supported on the hardware side under HP rules.

Thanks for your insights Luigi; it would seem that I am not alone. I have partially solved the problem by exporting jpeg's from Lightroom to Photoshop 7 on my lap top. By doing so I find that Lightroom is one of the most user-unfriendly programs I have ever encountered. The root of the problem seems to be the same; Lightroom wants you to send your photos to a commercial photoprinter rather than print your own. Further, I find that the European A-size papers are poorly supported. The ease of resizing is a major advantage of the A system and is all but lost when using Lightroom.

I run my B9180 with windows 7, 64bit, no problems so far. I also use Q-image, and although interface can be a bit confusing sometimes I can really recommend it for the best quality prints. I also have a Z2100 so the small printer doesn't get used much these days.

Adobe made the mistake of asking me to review Lightroom 4. My review was rejected before I had posted it to them. They claimed, incorrectly, that characters other than letters and numbers were present in my review. Are the reviews supposed to be unpunctuated, because only punctuation marks were present in the text besides alphanumeric characters?

Perhaps it was the review's title "Why I have uninstalled Lightroom 4"

I shall miss the noise reduction features of Lightroom 4 but will be pleased to say goodbye to the file handling and the print sizing issues that bedevil all those using the European A4 sizes (e.g. the absence of the sides' ratio of 1:1.414 in the preset crops available).
