vikasmg Posted April 29, 2013 Share #2 Posted April 29, 2013 Hi Nick some good pictures, but not much by way of review comments and opinions... - Vikas
Nick De Marco Posted April 29, 2013 Author Share #3 Posted April 29, 2013 It's true Vikas, that my blog focuses more on photos than writing, but I tried to provide a fair bit of opinion on the blog about what I liked about the M and how it worked with some of the lenses I used. Thanks for enjoying the photos anyway. Nick Here is another photo from the blog review, one taken at 2000 iso with the Contax 80-200mm Sonnar f4 zoom lens - as you can see from my blog article, I was happy with how this worked with the M. chris_tribble Posted April 29, 2013 Share #4 Posted April 29, 2013 Nick - thanks for being image rich and content economical Questions: 1/ What settings did you use with the Biogon? Great to see that it's not a problem to get the corners right. (I have good experience with the 18mm - so this could be a future option for extreme wide...) 2/ What was your overall feeling with the 80-200 Contax? I'm using using the Leica R 80-200 f4 and love the results, but I feel a need for a monopod. 3/ I note no problems with skin tones in your images. Do you have any thoughts on the "M-240 color" debates? Good work! Thanks again.

I intend to try R zooms once the adapter is finally out... - Vikas

Do you have any thoughts on the "M-240 color" debates? Good work! Thanks again. Thanks Chris 1. I set the 25mm Biogon as a Leica 24mm lens. No problems with the corners. one or two shots slightly more blueish - but nothing serious. As I am sure you know it is a beautifully sharp lens so it's great to see it works well on the M. I have the Zeiss 18mm and will try it soon. 2. The Contax 80-200 was the surprise for me. I had no idea how it work. Bought it mainly as it was light and small for a zoom, inexpensive yet a Contax and I have very good experience with some of their lenses (their 50 1.4 is probably my favourite SLR 50mm lens). I was very impressed with it. Obviously you need to shoot fast, 1/250 or above seems best, but then fine. 3. I thought the colour debates were a little 'anal' I'm afraid. I use raw with the Leica M as I did with the M9 and M8. Different lenses can give me different colours, and I can always quickly change them in Lightroom if I need to. The M seems a little warmer to me than the M9, but not enough to get worked up about. Nick

I land up doing some minimal touch up on all images anyway and correcting the colour is a simple task. I was looking at some M8/M9 images in Lightroom over the weekend though and noticed how much less frequently colour fixing was needed. - Vikas

Nick I think this is due to the lenses you used not the camera, what is the picture you posted made with the Leica 35 Summicron ? # 3? on my monitor there are on that blue tint, that does not look natural. With pictures I took from the Shard on the same day I've noticed quite a strong blue cast with a daylight white balance. I'm not convinced that the observation windows in the building have a neutral colour. Bob.
Nick De Marco Posted April 29, 2013 Author Share #10 Posted April 29, 2013 Bob is correct - the blue cast was on photos taken from the Shard where there was much sunlight (sun behind view) as a result, I'm pretty sure, of the polarising effect of the glass windows, and nothing to do with the M. If you look at all my photos on the blog review you will see the others not taken from up the Shard with the 35 Summicon had no such cast.
