australex Posted April 28, 2013 Share #1 Posted April 28, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Does the A&A silk strap have lug protectors to stop it scratching the camera body? If not has anyone noticed this happening? The Black Label silk strap says that it has protectors does anyone have experience with both and can perhaps comment on relative quality? Advertisement Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 Hi australex, Take a look here A&A silk strap. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
John McMaster Posted April 28, 2013 Share #2 Posted April 28, 2013 I have a couple of those straps and not noticed them scratching the body despite no protectors. In normal use the thickness of the leather keeps the ring away, at extreme angles the ring touches the protector plate rather than the body.... john

Peter H Posted April 28, 2013 Share #4 Posted April 28, 2013 I've used this strap for a couple of years on a black M9 without a single mark, and its a heavily used camera.
gjames9142 Posted April 30, 2013 Share #5 Posted April 30, 2013 I must warn you that the O-rings on these very expensive straps are not the best. My M9 fell off its strap while I was shooting in a prison last month. I have replaced the O-rings on both my silk straps with ones taken from old Leica straps. UliWer Posted April 30, 2013 Share #6 Posted April 30, 2013 (edited) Oh! We must start several threads at once and a FAQ-Section for insufficient O-rings of third party stuff for Leicas. To tell you the truth: I didn't trust Luigi's leather fixing for his half-case I use for the M8 and M9. So I secured it with a double O-ring. This caused no harm for the M8 (black chrome), but the rings made the edges of the black painted M9 look "golden" very soon. gjames9142 Posted April 30, 2013 Share #7 Posted April 30, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) There are quite enough threads on minutiae, but this could have been serious for me. The camera fell on concrete, and seems okay, although the V4 summicron is slightly off centre when you look at it head on. Optically okay., I think. I was actually shooting with the Monochrom. with the M9 on one shoulder. The AA O-rings don't have enough spring in them, and became slightly open when mounting the strap. I changed both of them, but I now keep a beady eye open for this problem.
spylaw4 Posted May 1, 2013 Share #8 Posted May 1, 2013 Sorry to hear of your problem. I've never had a single problem with any "O" ring on three silk straps. indeed they seem quite tough, but with a bit of use do get easier to "split" for taking on/off, but do stay firmly closed once in place. I have never heard of any other complaint re these.
LeicaPassion Posted May 2, 2013 Share #9 Posted May 2, 2013 Is the strap comfortable around the neck and on the shoulder? Since it iis narrow I'm a bit concerned.
platypus Posted May 2, 2013 Share #10 Posted May 2, 2013 I have two of these plaited silk straps and find them good. The rings do not come in contact with the camera body (M9 & MM) due to the thickness of the leather connections between the ring and the strap, so...no rubbing. I have not (so far) had any problem with the 'O' rings, but appreciate the early warning! The comfort factor...using this strap I lug a Noctilux around during long walks with only minimal discomfort from shoulder/neck area.
spylaw4 Posted May 2, 2013 Share #11 Posted May 2, 2013 Is the strap comfortable around the neck and on the shoulder? Since it iis narrow I'm a bit concerned. Around the neck, in one word ....... yes! I am not too sure about simply using a short version on a shoulder as it's round. It probably depends on the fabric of your jacket or whatever. The longer version can be worn diagonally - recommended in countries where the possibility of having it snatched is greater. The shorter one can be used as a wrist strap - great at absorbing perspiration in hot humid climates.
honcho Posted May 2, 2013 Share #12 Posted May 2, 2013 I have an A&A black silk braided strap on my MP and I prefer it to the original Leica webbing strap. It is comfortable around the neck and on one shoulder but I wouldn't use it with a heavier camera. Leather trim at each end of the strap protects the camera body from abrasion.
