Atracksler Posted April 17, 2013 Share #1 Posted April 17, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) What are some of your favorite "sleeper" lenses, the Rodney Dangerfield's of the leica lens world.... The lenses that are great, despite the fact they "get no respect"?

lct Posted April 18, 2013 Share #4 Posted April 18, 2013 Not sure if Summicron 40/2 and Elmar 50/2.8 are underrated but i may be wrong. As far as my lenses as concerned, i would say Elmar 135/4, Elmarit (M & R) 135/2.8, Elmar 90/4 collapsible. Also CV 21/4 and Rokkor 40/2 perhaps.

luigi bertolotti Posted April 18, 2013 Share #10 Posted April 18, 2013 There are no many Leica/Leitz lenses which "get no respect" (and so more in this forum...) : personally I consider Summaron 35 and Summarit 50 1,5 pleasant and someway underrated, so as the Elmar 90.

rramesh Posted April 18, 2013 Share #12 Posted April 18, 2013 As 'sleepers' I would consider: a) New Leica lenses that are readily available in most stores, even during periods of high demand e.g. Christmas. With this definition, I would look at Summarits. For older lenses, I think most lenses f/2.8 or higher can be found at reasonable value e.g. Elmars and Elmarits as others have pointed out. c) There are many non-Leica lenses e.g. CV and Zeiss that are just as good if not better than some Leica lenses. My favorite lens, even if I don't use one now will always be the CV 40 f/1.4 SC. My first lens on an M9 and it's true 'value for money'.

enenrf Posted April 20, 2013 Share #15 Posted April 20, 2013 40 Summicron-C, its a under valued lens in my opinion.
kokoshawnuff Posted April 21, 2013 Share #16 Posted April 21, 2013 the Elmar 90. The original LTM type is probably the cheapest Leica lens that you can buy (typically $90-$150 for a clean copy) and a wonderful performer.
MarkP Posted April 21, 2013 Share #17 Posted April 21, 2013 Sleeper lens? Any lens which I've not used for a while, which I then put on the camera, with which I'm happy with the photographs, and then I think... 'why haven't I used that lens for such a long time'?

IWC Doppel Posted April 21, 2013 Share #19 Posted April 21, 2013 I was reminded today when using the little f2.8 Summaron, just how good it is. Little 'O' is going to give fun racing a try so we are getting her used to the necessary muzzle Jpg straight out at f4 Welcome, dear visitor! StephenPatterson Posted April 22, 2013 Share #20 Posted April 22, 2013 Zeiss 25/2.8 Boigon. I have always preferred the 21mm focal length but a friend in Hong Kong had this lens and it's simply amazing. I think some people find the focal length non-standard and therefore strange, but this is a lens full of magic.
