IWC Doppel Posted April 14, 2013 Share #1 Posted April 14, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have just bought an F1 Noctilux I will be looking at my options as I now have too many to justify. I now have an F1 Noctilux, pre asph Summilux V2 and pre asph summilux V3, plus my little old Elmar-M I had bought the V3 with the intention of selling the V2, but still assessing, I now have a Noctilux E60 1988 vintage. I'd like to move to two or three, I will keep my little Elmar, but my initial thinking was 50 V3 and Elmar. The 0.7m is an advantage, I suspect the V2 will be sold, but my initial assessment shows the V2 has a little more vibrancy and is sharper between f2.8 and f8 than my V3 (My V2 was calibrated and CLA'd in 2012. That being said, I'd keep the Elmar (I wouldn't part with a little lens that's fun to use and that has a relatively low value on the used market), sell both Summiluxes and buy a Summicron (a v2, for example). andym911 Posted April 14, 2013 Share #3 Posted April 14, 2013 i just purchased a summicron V4 from the forum here...a lovely compact lens and love the tab.... will always keep the elmar..it is the Lux that gets less use due to weight.. By the way which 50/f1 did you get? #11821 #11822 or #11603? I did MY own test and posted the results on getDPI without saying which lens was which. For what it's worth. I would say keep them and next buy a 10 bladed 5cm Summitar next. I have a feeling you may like the rendering of it and it's different to everything else you have. IkarusJohn Posted April 14, 2013 Share #7 Posted April 14, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I hate to stimulate further expenditure, but the perfect companion, and complimentary alternative to an f1 Noctilux is surely a 50 Summilux ASPH. It is tack sharp where the other can be soft, clinical where the other is painterly, and it is one of the best corrected Leica lenses; you can use it reliably across all apertures with the digital Ms. It also looks small and light next to the Noct! We can probably leave out such rarities as the Thambar and Noctilux f/1.2. The reason for the question is that my lenses are mostly modern well corrected ASPH lenses. My three prime 50s are: 1.0/50 E60 Noctilux v3 1.4/50 Summilux ASPH (FLE) 1.5/50 ZM C-Sonnar The Sonnar is a nice mix between new & old look. If I didn't have the Sonnar I'd probably have an Elmar-M I agree with John's suggesting the Summilux ASPH (FLE). Otherwise, what you have is a good combination as it is. I just bought a replacement Summitar for my old IIIc (given to me by my godfather) as the original Summitar had a nasty cataract and was not useable or repairable. From the photos it looks clean (coated), though time will tell, I guess ... I've scored a Voigtlander LTM adapter. What do people code this as? 50 f/2 11817? I had the earlier version and that was delicious. Spent a whole day with it in Saint Chapelle (prior to current construction). My wife thought something had happened to me as she could not fathom I would spend a whole day and nearly 2 32GB SD cards of total enjoyment. After a while I think even the guards gave up on me. No tripods so I tried a lot of chest pod shots with the 14110 and I believe 14100. Difficult shooting wide open and my M9 at 1250. Had not ventured above that ISO prior. But I have a problem. I'm travelling and couldn't wait for a new M. I'm carrying a Zeiss Ikon which I think needs main thence. For the last two rolls, all of my pictures have been coming out crooked, like they 5 degrees of rotation. I swear it's not user error, but I've never heard of this problem before. I bought my replacement from a university student via Gumtree after meeting her and testing the lens on the M9 and my laptop.
