I have a new (to me) 135/4.0 E46 Tele-Elmar-M (1993) coming my way. I already own the APO 135/3.4 E49. I have no problem with the APO's quality or rendering.

My question to youMonochrom ownersis which of these lenses is best suited for MM use considering I have a full compliment of B&W 46mm filters I currently use with 21/3.4, 28/2, 35/1.4, 50/1.4, 90/2.9 Elmarit-M?

Since the TEM 135/4 also uses 46mm filters it is tempting to use that instead of the APO on Monochrom outings. However, since in theory the APO should be better than the older TEM, any comment or experience with the two on a Monochrom?

Also I have no desire to take both 135's on photo outings-one for MM use and the other for M use.

The Apo will outperform the TE wide open and maybe one stop down. However the TE is a very good lens. You will only see a difference if you use a flawless technique, perfect focussing and preferably a tripod. If you use the lenses reportage-style the differences will not be visible or at best to an irrelevant extent.

As you will have both lenses why not take some photographs and decide for yourself?
