I am tempted to say ALL OF THE LENSES, since the Monochrom as a certain way of bringing the best out of each lens.

But since you asked, I will offer some personal opinion.

1. current summicron non-apo. (I have not tried the AA, But I have tried many of the others). It is super sharp, straight as a ruler and yet natural at mid apertures. It is small and light, especially in V4 variety (same optic, the one with tabs). It is "soft" and "classic" at wider apertures. It contains no special mechanisms, so it is very fast and precise to focus. Sure, it flares, but I have long since learned to work with the flare, and avoid it with the proper hood. (V4 has a good hood, V5 need extra protection).

2. 28/2 ASPH. Relatively small, sharp from corner to corner (important!), super duper sharp. Enough resolution in both camera and lens to allow some cropping (although I almost never do!). Pretty heavy vignetting, but this is very easy to correct in lightroom.

3. Elmar-M 50. Not quite as sharp as the cron (not far off!), but in return it is almost impermeable to flare, so no hood needed. If you are careful you can even get away without a filter since the front element is the size of a fingernail. Smallness and lightness are a big deal to me, since I feel the whole point with a M system is its portability and smallness. And this lens takes the prize. A very charming lens that is fun to use. Particularly beautiful in chrome finish.

I evolve, just as my lens-fleet, so now it is:

1. Summilux 75

2. Summicron 35 pre-asph

3. Elmar 50 collapsible

The Summilux 35 FLE I have yet to find out. Because of its magnificent color-rendering I prefer it on my M9 and am reluctant to disconnect it thus far.

I agree entirely with you about the Elmar-M; it is a most splendid lens.

The others I do like are the 35 Summicron asph and the Summicron 50 VI.

I previously posted only two as I was not sure what my third position was going to be with some new lenses on the way.

I now add the 75/1.4 to my previous 35/1.4 Asph and 50mm APO choices. 75/1.4 is a stunner!

Nikkor 35mm 1.8 LTM

Nikkor 50mm 1.4 LTM

Canon 35mm 1.8 LTM

The Nikkor 35 is sharper wide open than the Canons (I also have a Canon 35mm 2.0 LTM). Microcontrast is similar. Conversely, the Canon 50mm 1.4 is sharper wide open than the Nikkor.

The Nikkors are built like tanks - all metal, quite heavy and jewel-like.
