Prosophos Posted June 22, 2013 Share #23  Posted June 22, 2013 Neil,  Try this:  B+W 60mm 0.9 ND MRC 103M Filter 66-1066143 B&H Photo Video  Peter.
Paul J Posted June 22, 2013 Share #24 Â Posted June 22, 2013 Know that the 6 stop B+W MRC (Multicoated) has a reasonably strong but pleasing (IMO) warm tone and some noticable vignetting. All manageable with lightroom though.

Jager Posted June 22, 2013 Share #26  Posted June 22, 2013 Seems overpriced from what I can tell. The sample pix I've seen from it look poor. But I did see some other samples in a Leica book that looked pretty nice.  If you own one or have used one, do you feel it is worth the money? Only thing I can see special about it is 1 stop over my Zeiss F2. If I am missing something clue me in.  Thanks  A lot of us think it is worth it. I have both the f1 version and the f0.95. They are among my most-used lenses. Their nominal benefit over everything else is speed. Their more important trait, the thing that makes them magical - yes, I'll use that term - is their unique signature.  Between them, I slightly prefer the new f0.95 version. But they are both lovely lenses.  Trying to justify the breathtaking cost... well, there's an exercise in futility. If you haven't seen work made with the Noctilux that you like, or if you're already convinced that you could achieve comparable results with a cheaper lens - well, there's your answer. You just saved a ton of money!  For me, the Noctilux is reason enough to own the M system.

But I did see some other samples in a Leica book that looked pretty nice.   Thanks  Isn't that exactly what they say about everything Leica? Especially if you've never owned one?  I think people "get" the Noctilux just like they either do or don't "get" the Leica M. Better and worse are kind of arbitrary terms when looking at the M system. It's kind of like saying that a 10x8 is better than 35mm. Not if you need autofocus or if you shoot formula 1, it isn't.  I can only dream of owning a 0.95 at the moment. For now I'll have to do with the poor mans Noct (CV 50mm 1.1). And even though I rarely use it and it's flawed as all heck, I can't seem to get around to selling it. I think I totally understand why owners love this lens. Perfection is over-rated. Character is where it's at.  Gordon

I am toying with also buying the f1 for it's unique look.  As for justifying the cost, that is an initial hurdle. The joy of using it and in seeing the results made me quickly forget the price. I think it's worth every penny.
CheshireCat Posted June 23, 2013 Share #29  Posted June 23, 2013 It's really a matter of personal taste.  The f/1 is my favorite; it has a strong character, so strong it may backfire sometime (dream becomes a nightmare). Very strong vignetting, plenty sharp for me. Size is perfect. Worth the price ? I love it.  The f/0.95 ASPH is more corrected and natural. But very often shows horseshoe bokeh in the corner (a weird artifact I don't like at all). Lens is also bulkier than the old bro. Worth the price ? Not for me; for clean and natural rendering the latest Summilux ASPH is probably a better choice.  I recommend going through flickr groups and check a lot of shots from both lenses, then decide:  f/1 Flickr: Noctilux F1.0 Photographs  f/0.95 Flickr: LEICA Noctilux-M 50mm f0.95 ASPH  P.S. You don't buy a Noctilux to get more light. You buy it for rendering and character.

thighslapper Posted June 23, 2013 Share #32  Posted June 23, 2013 Fabulous lens......  Wide open is slightly soft but you can sharpen with no artefacts and as most of the rest of the shot is so out of focus nothing happens ...... here are two ..... (ignore the Exif as I was using an ND filter).......  There is really nothing else that produces such unusual images .... and the colour rendering is very saturated and rich on the M240 Welcome, dear visitor! That's what I call horseshoe bokeh.
