14mm Super Elmar f/3.8

Sorry to spoil the party, but the page is from when the new 21/3.4 was released and the rumor was that the 14 would also come.

I accidentally saw the 21/3.4 on the shelf at the factory some weeks before the release and prepared pages for that and the 14mm to be released on the evening of the release. At that point it seemed realistic that both were in the making.

As it rolled out, only the 21mm was released and if a 14mm will ever see the light of day remains a question.

Was the picture shown actually taken with a 14mm Super Elmar f/3.8?

There is still hope. Given Zeiss' 15mm and the CV 15 & 12, I would be surprised if Leica were not planning something new in this focal length range. It would nicely complement the 21 and 18 SEMs. Maybe it is just taking longer to develop due to the difficulty of designing such a lens with Leica's expected quality.

Well, this seems to leave the R 15/2.8 still as the best ultra wide Leica lens out there. If they can use that same cell then the 14 might come about. f 2.8 is definitely an advantage.

It's just that the rotating filter barrel would probably be left out of an M model.

Good try Ram, like you say 24 hours of hope.
