Some other scans from this 2002 trip, this time from a rather rarely used track through and along the Atafaitafa mountain range, which is located south of the spectacular Erg Tiffernine. There are several small and nameless Ergs (sand dune fields) in that region, which we always visited for searching a camp place; it is more difficult to set up a tent on pure rock than on sand ...

A good part of the driving was on corrugated tracks and rocks, which was really murderous to the equipment. We had a staple of canned fish in our food box, where the upmost tin worked its way through the second tin, this mass through the third and the fourth, within several hours - resulting in a stinking mess ...

Here is a typical muslim grave. Who is buried here, and since when? The desert never permits a clue on how long something is there. This grave might be a few or five hundred years old; a wandering sand reveals arrowheads and mortar stones that could be there since a hundred, a thousand, or even several thousand years ...

 

Once we followed a seemingly fresh tire track, which suddenly disappeared under a huge dune that must have been towering there for at least a decade or so.
