Like most European manufacturers Leica would maintain parts for a number of years after product is discontinued, especially so as it's a premium brand expected 'to last a lifetime'.

Since the M9 and M9-P are still featured on the Leica website I would take it that they have not been discontinued yet. And as such the availability period for parts has not been frozen yet.

Would this be a correct assumption?

Leica will have parts available for as long as they can economically obtain them. They have indicated publicly that they aim to support the M9 for ten years but I don't think they have offered any kind of guarantee of that so I wouldn't rely on it. What you can reasonably assume is that, barring a major change of ownership or management, Leica will try and do the right thing (offer some kind of attractive trade-in deal) if they can no longer source key parts.

No. The M9/M9P were discontinued last year and replaced my the M-E (which is essentially the same camera although we don't know if Leica introduced any hidden changes, i.e. specification of some components etc.).

Dealers are selling remaining stocks of the M9/M9P so I guess that's why Leica have kept the camera up on the website for now.

That was what I was led to believe and to be true of the M-E as well reading some of these forum posts. Question is that whether there a document to that effect and posted on website? Otherwise any mention of past or present product(s) on website would mean that it is still a current product in my book.

From the Leica Q&A session at Photokina;

Question: Are the M9 and the M9-P still being produced?

Stefan Daniel: No, they are not being built any more. The last ones have been made in July and August.
