Why not put a little cap over it so that it can't be pressed?

Just stuff superglue round the edges.

I cannot conceive of using the movie facility except possibly in some unexpected extraordinary event that may be newsworthy and get me on the tele ......

I keep a Flip Video in the car just in case anyway......

Good idea but I keep hoping that Leica will allow us to reprogram the button to do something useful like EV alteration. :)

My movie button also is not flush (its about 1/8" above the surface of body), and Ive never once accidentally recorded a movie.

You may not have stiff twisted arthritic hands like I do, plus a missing right index finger tip. These together can make ergonomics of a camera very critical. I was never accidentally taking movies before the lug repair whereas I am constantly doing so now. It may be that they have made the switch ultra sensitive, rather than the fact that is stands more proud than I remember.

An eights of an inch seems pretty high. My movie button is less than 1/2 millimeter above the deck. Which is about 1/6th of what you quote.

You would not have thought there should be any variation. I have just measured mine and it is 1.25mm proud. I am sure before the lug job, it was very nearly flush with the top deck.

However, I have now discovered it is not me touching the button at all. If you hold the body at the right hand side, with a heavy lens on it, it starts taking a movie all by itself without touching the button.

They must have left a loose connection inside. Back again (!!!!!!!) to Solms - not impressed.:mad::mad:

That's incredible.... ... only with heavy lenses you say ? how hell they arranged the contacts' assemblies inside ? Really a shame... 99% of M users, I think didn't want video... and now seems that its addition hasn't been well engineered...

I have been thinking about this while waiting for Leica Service to phone me back. I am going to end up with a camera, which in the first three months of its life, will have had two total strip downs and rebuilds. In other words a distinctly second hand camera. This is not what I paid for. I am therefore going to request that the camera be declared a "lemon" and be replaced with a new one. They can do what they like with my current one, repair it and sell it on as 'factory refurbished" if they wish.

All due credit to Leica. They are going to replace my faulty M240 with a new one rather than repair it again. They are arranging a UPS box to be delivered to me to take the faulty one back to Solms, as I threw the old box away last week.

Happy again :):)

Ok... there is still a Leica on which one can trust... did they sent you a "lemon certificate" detailing the s/n of your previous M ? ;) One day it could become an interesting collectible (expecially for the person that, in some way, will own THAT camera) :D

Luigi,

Since I am the winner here, I am not going to stir the pot and list the serial number. The camera may be perfectly OK once it has been factory refurbished, with the instant movie fault cured. At a reduced price it could even be a good buy for someone. However I paid full price and Leica totally agreed that a twice rebuilt camera was not what I bought. There was no argument and no hassle. As soon as I suggested in an email this morning, that a replacement was the appropriate response to this issue caused by the lug repair, Leica came straight back to me on the phone agreeing and arranging to pick up the faulty one. I have to say one cannot imagine this level of service from Nikon/Canon/Sony, even on their most expensive cameras. This is what Apple used to be like 10 years ago but not now.
