Two of the three Leica shops in Singapore have the new Em but only for sale as "kits" with a 35mm lens or a trio of lenses: 21+50+75mm (75 can be swapped for the 90. All Summarits where applicable. The non-Leica Shop dealers seem irritated that Leica is not giving them the cameras at the same time and also insisting they take at least one lens with every body.

A dealer who has represented Leica here since before the sales people in the Leica shops were even born did sell me a Chrome body though - the only one he had. However he is expecting "more black bodies next week". I could not bear to wait and I secretly like the chrome anyway. However if anyone wants to have a go at getting hold of one next week, the shop is;

Gope's Foto and Film Pte Ltd

Good luck. Why doesn't the damn battery charge any faster so I can convert this expensive paperweight into a camera :-(

I just found it sad that the ION Leica store didn't have a M display unit at all and the store in Mandarin Gallery wouldn't allow me to insert my own SD card due to "general store policy"... Might try Raffles in the coming days... But hey, on the other hand I'm still very happy with my M9 after more than 3 years... :D

Contrary to what I expected when the Leica Stores opened I have found the older dealers both more helpful and more knowledgeable. Among the three Leica Stores though, my familiarity has only been with the Raffles Hotel store. The Ion people don't even pick up the phone and I've never been there (I hate the building and navigating through it). The Mandarin Gallery people I've spoken to on the phone. The Raffles store is very pleasant and the people there are friendly enough but not partially knowledgable or flexible.

Before they had the three stores I always found Andrew Chan, the Service Technician at their distributor Schmidt Marketing the most well informed but they are not a sales outlet.

Sorry Andy. I should have been, but wasn't aware that that was rule!
