Novoflex Nikon Adapter for Leica M

The description of this adapter is as follows:

 

"The Lens Adapter for Nikon Lens to Leica M Camera from Novoflex allows the use of Nikon mount lenses on the Leica M camera body. These adapters allow Nikon lenses that do not have aperture control rings to work with the Leica M as well."

 

Anyone know how it works as far as setting the aperture? I am interested to see if I can use my Nikon AF-S VR Micro-Nikkor 105mm for Macro work on the M.

 

I don't want to pay almost $300 just to find out though;)

I played with this last weekend for a bit at the local camera store in LA. As stated in the other thread one has to count the aperture from fully open or fully closed for the desired aperture.

 

The lenses I was thinking of, 105mm Macro and 300mm tele will work, but it is not possible to use the rangefinder to focus as the lenses block it. So, live view is a requirement. Not worried about it as these are tripod applications with these lenses anyway.

 

Once I get the M in I will go back and play with it some more before making a purchase.

My other camera is a micro 4/3 with its own lenses and will use slr lenses on adapters. One adapter I had was Nikon G to M4/3 and had a ring built into the tubular mount, which upon being rotated would close the iris. How far you rotated it was up to you but you could see the shutter speed lengthen as you stopped down. As an aside, would you expect much from a Nikon G lens, compared with a Leica lens? The use of a long zoom would be handy but view-finding might be a problem.

There are no Leica equivalents to the Nikon 105mm f/2.8 Macro lens. It is 1:1 out of the box, and very sharp.

 

From the posts here I know people do macro work using Visoflex, bellows etc.. If I were to go that route then my solution most likely be the Novoflex solution below:

Cost would be almost the same as all the components of the Visoflex system added up, and it would be more reliable as I would have no idea if the Visoflex purchased second hand would be fully functional or not.
