Just a quick one - for those of you who use a Luigi case with your M - and have the hanging door.. is it ok when you're shooting portrait/vertical?

I like the idea of it but not sure if it hangs down nicely - or does it become more supple over time and it's not an issue?

Thanks!

I had the one with the detachable flap. I took it off and pretty much forgot about it. I have to tell you this though: I bought my Luigi case back when the M8 came out and I don't know if he has changed his process, but the stitching on mine marred my M8 pretty badly.

My case has the hanging flap, and to be honest I keep it closed most of the time. For me that's the point, namely that I don't want to be fiddling with buttons and the LCD, but instead want to concentrate on composition. However it is not a problem to shoot with the flap hanging, either in landscape or portrait, as it stays out of your way. I much prefer the hanging design, as it never gets lost.

I have never had any issues with my Luigi case marring or scratching my silver chrome cameras, however the red suede does rub off on the baseplate label. No big deal. My wife doesn't like the strap for the same reason, as the red suede will, in high heat and humidity (like we have in SE Asia) come off on my shirts.

Very helpful thanks - I have no shame in using the LCD - especially with the new M - but I find with no cover on the back which I had with the A&A half case for my M9 -it tended to bang against my zippers/buttons on shirts and coats.

I'm thinking the hanging flap and then i can pretty much do without taking a shoulder bag and have decent protection. Just wondered if it affected the ergonomics at all.

LUIGI and his hanging flap are working perfectly for me. A friend of mine choosed the

detachable version and he lost two flipping flaps already. Mine is still around.

It´s a joy to use the digital camera with the camouflage-flap up. You are easily taken for

a harmless oldschool-shooter, walking around with a TRI X-camera.

"same disease" here... Hanging flap since M8 days. Never a problem. If in the way, I get it closed. I rather have "rear" covered (sorry for the pun) than have it damaged by being exposed...

Now, if only I can get a "new M" case on time...:D

At the risk of giving you more information than you want to know:

I have the flaps on two cases used on both M8 and M9 bodies.

My 'technique' when shooting is to leave the snaps undone and

keep the flap in place just with my grip on the camera.

Then, it's an easy to go 'flaps down' and check a histogram, for example.

When I do snap it 'flaps up' it's usually only the right hand (shutter release side)

snap. That way I can undo and drop it with a quick flick of finger or thumb.

Luigi's stuff is beautiful and durable. You'll love it.

Never too much information - thanks fort that.

I know the new M has this super gorilla glass but so does my ios devices and they seem to scratch quite nicely so I have small faith that the LCD would withstand repeated banging and swinging against zippers and buttons etc.

i tried with hanging door but its very impractical couse if you shoot vertical it disturbed me too much. actually i m using the angelo pelle half case (angelo-pelle.com) with removable door and i find much more practical. when i m in a session i preffer to leave it in the bag and dont have anything hanging around my camera. its even much cheaper and i prefferred on my M9 the eyecup design.

Mine has no rear flap. I really only use the screen when shooting to check the histogram but it is convenient to have quick access to the screen.

Regarding the screens: my MM is sapphire, my M9 has a Giottos screen protector, and the M will have Gorilla glass.

So why bother with a flap at all?

I have the Full Snub Nose Ever Ready case without any flap. Just throw it in a pack for the carry on. Your entire camera and lens are protected. With protective LCD covers there is no need for the flap of any kind.

Once you get to your destination pull the camera completely out of the full case and go out shooting. Never understood not having the whole case to protect the camera when traveling. The half case seems like it is not completely functional as it doesn't really protect much of the camera. It adds bulk (people already complain they want a smaller M) and it gets in the way of a fluid style of shooting for me. I think the half case is more for folks that want the retro film look.

Thanks all.

I like the idea of the camera being protected against the bumps of everyday life- on public transport during rush hour when folks are pushing and banging against you with various bags and things.

On my M9 my A&A half case did a good enough job but the rear giottos screen protector got pretty beaten up quickly.

One one hand I like the protection the rear cover would have when moving around and not shooting- but agree it may take some getting used to.

Seems like a 50/50 split of people that have it and those that don't.

For those that do- does the 'hinge' soften up quickly so the flap falls open better? I assume it is a little stiff to start with?

I didn't see where anyone commented on the battery case question. I have one with my Luigi case and I use it when I don't take a bag with me. Very convenient and does not get in the way.

That's exactly my thinking. Leave the bag at home and grab the camera and case/strap and off you go

hijack away!

I think personally the grip adds a little too much bulk - my hands aren't that big - although I so find the 1DX fine to use - so perhaps I would help.

For me it's a trade off with protection and keeping the system compact.
