Ecar Posted March 20, 2013 Share #21 Â Posted March 20, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Yes, flare is there, no way... a lens to be used in "safe" light conditions... and, btw, its XOONS hood isn't so easy to find... (and 3rd party alternatives are also not common. but do exist) If you can't find the XOONS and/or don't want to spend that kind of money for a hood, there's a 41mm Voigtlander one that comes in silver, with a cap, and works very well. Or, even cheaper, do as suggested here: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m-lenses/276857-hard-find-hoods-filters.html

menos I M6 Posted March 20, 2013 Share #22 Â Posted March 20, 2013 I have posted some photographs for comparison, made with several classic 50mm lenses over at RFF. I also comment on the 50 Summarit Æ’1.5, you might be interested. Â The Summarit is a very quirky lens and would not be my first choice as an everyday lens, but it's a must have lens, if it's special look is for you (for the occasion). It is a very heavy brass lens, needs extra care in regards of flare and shows it's psychedelic background rendering the moment, you only even think about it. rirakuma Posted March 20, 2013 Author Share #23 Â Posted March 20, 2013 Hi Dirk, thanks a bunch for posting that link. Out of the three 50s you posted I think the summarit is by far my favourite. I wasn't planning to use it like a swiss army knife but I wanted a lens with a lot of character and your samples shows how good the summarit is (imho). 50mm use to by my favourite focal length but I forced myself into a 35mm for versatility but every time I go back on a 50mm I feel like I'm at home. Thanks again for those pics, I think you have cured me from noctilust (for now)
menos I M6 Posted March 21, 2013 Share #24 Â Posted March 21, 2013 You are welcome! The Summarit really has lots of character ;-) Â If one doesn't feel bad about it's crazy background rendering, this is a really lovely classic lens. The much lighter and more compact 50 Æ’2 Summitar lens though shares a lot of it's character, while being more practical in my opinion. Have a look at these as well. Nice samples are as difficult to find, as nice Summarits, but the Summitar goes for half the cost of a 50 Æ’1.5 Summarit !!! Â In my opinion, this is a nice saving, one can direct to other things, while retaining the character of the images. rirakuma Posted March 21, 2013 Author Share #25  Posted March 21, 2013 Well I ended up buying the summarit, probably for a bit too much but I really do like its rendering. Maybe I'm in a honeymoon period with soft lenses, I find the summarits rendering extremely attractive. I was almost going to order the sonnetar 1.1 but I don't find the bokeh dreamy like the summarit. The canon dream lens was another I considered but in the end it just seemed to big and almost triple the price of a summarit. Pleas share some more shots with the summarit if you have them, Im waiting for my M so I can't use mine  You are welcome! The Summarit really has lots of character ;-)  If one doesn't feel bad about it's crazy background rendering, this is a really lovely classic lens.
