VC 15mm f4.5 lens and graduated filters

I have recently been acquiring Lee RF75 filters for my M series lenses for use on my Ricoh GXR and planned eventual use on a Leica M. I feel a bit irritated that my VC 15 mm f4.5 lens (which is an excellent 22.5 mm lens on the Ricoh GXR) seems to have a fixed lens hood on it which prevents the use of a graduated filter. Has any forum member encountered and worked around this problem? It is tempting to try and remove the lugs that make up the lens hood.
