Do Digilux 2 photos have distinctive look?

Taken handheld and 1/15 by lamp light. I had the White balance set to "Flash" but ended up liking the warmer look of the "wrong" setting.

I'm still learning how to use this wonderful camera, but I wanted to thank John T. and Thorsten O. for their inspiring websites.

As I patiently await for the Panasonic DMC-GH1 to hit the States, I've been getting reacquainted with my D2. I hadn't posted seriously in a few years, Steve Talkowski's Photo Galleries at pbase.com but have been using the D2 sporadically. After perusing the thread, I was inspired to take the camera out with me yesterday, and got a few decent shots last night. (Check out the Flickr set for full-res images)

Good to see the D2 still has lots of folks excited 5 years later!

sketchguy,

Love your colors and clarity of your images. Well done.

Thank you Thorsten! Your site was one of the newer places I had visited a few days ago and your D2 images are very impressive. Definitely got me excited to re-explore my D2.

There really is something in how the noise/"grain" gets resolved from that lens.

A marvellous camera that completely contradicts the need for masses of pixels. I won't give mine up. Attached is one of my first pictures.

Thanks John. I'm heading Upstate (Saugerties) this weekend and will be bringing along the D2. I'll post some shots over the next few days.

Have a great weekend everyone,

It would be interesting to click on the white bars of the flag emblem to sample/adjust the white balance. You may not like the purity of the resulting colours but it would hint at an acceptable alternative to your preferred warm rendering.

play with the D2's B&W color setting .... you will probably be very pleased with those results.

the topic could be debated forever, but .... if the colors are bothersome .... get rid of them...

Here are few shots from my friends' gig (Junkyard Scientists). I happened to be there with my LC1. It was pretty dark inside, so I used bounce flash for all shots. All at f/2.0, RAW and ISO100, and post processed in Lightroom with some colour and curve adjustments. Ability to use a 28-90mm eqv lens so sharp with f/2-2.4 full aperture and inclusion of the innovative bounce flash makes this camera unique!

Click on the photos for full-res copies.

Whilst I use my Weston Master V for incident light metering when shooting film, I have never bothered using it with the D2. I think I may in future as I have had some nice results playing today.

This lens is so sharp wide open, that I´m sometimes afraid to cut myself ;o)

Jpg. straight from the box.

Pic. 2-7 + 9-10 on my website NOERGAARD FOTO is taken by D2 as well

If You go close, the bokeh is quite nice too I think:-)

Love the first one, John.

I think a (big) secret in the Digilux 2 is "treat is as a Hasselblad or Canon 1Ds Mark III" in the meaning of, compose and expose like it's for real, not a candid camera. That's when you get pictures like no 1 that looks awesome!

Last week, I have been in Paris for some business, and there have been some hours in the evening to take a walk through the city. My Digilux 2 was with me, as always... :)

No tripod, ISO 100, sunshine WB.

Best regards, Peter.

Just finished shooting a festival this weekend with Digilux 2 and R8/DMR (with 35-70/2.8), and you can see the results in this slideshow:

overgaard.dk - SPOT-Festival 2009 in Aarhus, Denmark

Interesting thing is you'll have a hard time seeing what was made with what. But the D2 are ready out of the box, the DNG-files from the DMR needs adjusting to some degree.
