Do Digilux 2 photos have distinctive look?

Left on auto , time and direct the camera to your subject and it doesn't hunt too excessivly. Sometimes the hunt/lag works on your side as you get the next movement not the initial reaction from the subject, hard work, lose a few but it is worth the effort

The shutterlag is deniable. The only thing you have to do is switch off AF and it becomes pretty fast. this thread seems to have exploded the myth of poor low-light performance rather effectively...

I agree...I turn off the AF in low light and estimate the distance on the lens, works great....Composing on the LCD but watching the scene with your naked eye until you see that moment, practically eliminates shutter lag.....

Hmmmm, there always seems to be a solution if you look for it and are flexable ;)

I love this camera, no regrets here.

Cheers

My Digilux 2 started giving me bad images, then just died. Thanks to this forum, I learned about the extended warantee. I shipped mine back to New Jersey and got it back yesterday. They replaced the CCD, cleaned it, and shipped it back overnight. My digital needs will be met for a while longer. I'm glad I lurk here.

I waited about six weeks for NJ to return my camera. They sent it overnight.

Especially when you consider the shutter lag (undeniable) and the poor (alleged) low light performance.

You mean like this?

There is zero shutter lag if you turn off the auto-gizmos. Pretend it's a "real Leica", i.e. screw-mount; sort out your exposure, pre-focus, take the shot.

I kind of like this thread; despite a promise from the mangement that the M8 forum would return, there has been no action (a bit like the Cars forum that we voted for :().

I am heartily sick of reading moans about the M8, which have swamped the digi-forum, judging by the number of views and contributions this thread has got, I'm not alone.

Can I suggest that every D2 owner either posts a response or a photo here very day until we get some action? :D

Whilst recognising that the M8 is a very important camera and its problems need discussion... oh - that's the reason for a separate section!

So following Pete's request...

I was going to post this in the travel section (and I may still do so) but this handsome fellow sunning hmself in an Amsterdam window deserves to be seen.

Okay, more photos it is! Here are two more from last month's Hawaiian vacation (and if anyone can identify the make/model of the tree with the green stringy things -- Yes, it's a tree! -- I would be grateful)...

My D2 has not yet arrived, but I just came across the wonderful D2 galleries of Scott Dommin. For those of you who haven't seen them, check these out:

Great photo's, great thread! I would not be surprised if the prices of Digilux 2's would be rising as a result.

It gives me the excuse to trot out some older stuff :

The D2... one of the best purchases I've made. It makes astonishingly beautiful jpegs and RAW (if you have the time to wait for it to write). The camera operation is a pleasure, despite the EVF. I've had people remark that the photos look distinct. I think they notice the colour fidelity, precise detail and vast depth of field. It is a go everywhere kind of camera. I will not ever sell it.

Yes, I think DL 2 photographs DO have a distinct look... I have mine three years now, and I would not sell it by no means.

At the moment, I am starting to build a little gallery.

Krabat pictures

I've got to admit that I never took pictures in the BW mode, I convert colour images using PS.

Best regards, Peter.

The Digilux 2 has a quite exceptional lens. I don't think the Elmarit on the D3 comes near from what I have seen. Everyone seems amazed at the quality from just 5mp. It really is a surprising camera and may well become a true classic.
