Ecar Posted March 3, 2013 Share #1 Posted March 3, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I mentioned this in another thread, but thought I'd give it more visibility. I noticed that, even if you set lens detection to "Off", the camera seems to pick up the physical code on the lens and apply the correction. In other words, if the lens is coded, this overrides the "Off" menu setting. Must be a FW bug (btw, I have applied the v1.0.0.2 upgrade), as it defeats the purpose of the Detection "Off" menu setting. Can someone please confirm this behaviour? Leicaiste Posted March 3, 2013 Share #2 Posted March 3, 2013 I noticed that, even if you set lens detection to "Off", the camera seems to pick up the physical code on the lens and apply the correction. In other words, if the lens is coded, this overrides the "Off" menu setting. If it's true I hope it will stay like that. I am using one non-coded lens and often forgot to go back to auto lens detection. Lucien
mmradman Posted March 3, 2013 Share #3 Posted March 3, 2013 I think this is normal rather than bug, ask yourself do you really need or want to disable lens detection for 6 bit coded lens? Coming from Nikon any chipped (6 bit coded in Leica parlance) lens is detectable in Exif, this feature can't b disabled. You have option to apply manual coding for non-chipped lens. Ecar Posted March 3, 2013 Author Share #4 Posted March 3, 2013 Lucien, I'm afraid this won't solve your problem (I confess this also happens to me more often than it should) as a code entered manually in the menu will override the physical code on the lens - as it does with the M9. So either (a) you leave the setting to "Auto" and your uncoded lens will have no corrections applied and no Exif info recorded in the file or ( you assign a menu code to your uncoded lens and you need to change back to "Auto" when switching back to a coded lens. This has not changed with the M240. What seems to have changed is the fact that the "Off" menu setting is essentially not useable for coded lenses. This effectively makes the setting useless. Indeed - not a big deal. However, the M9 has an "Off" option to disable lens recognition and so does the M240 - except it does not appear to work on the latter. I guess what I'm saying is either "Off" should disable lens recognition or the "Off" menu option should be removed. I can live with either... viramati Posted March 3, 2013 Share #7 Posted March 3, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Personally I hope it stays this way as I too sometimes to switch back to auto after having manually set for a non coded lens

If I recall it was mentioned on another thread maybe 2 weeks ago that this intentional. It remembers the last lens be it M or R. You must then manually change non coded lenses for it to remember this lens the next time the camera is turned on. As someone else asked why would you turn off detection if you have a 6 bit coded lens on it? Have you tried changing lenses with this detection turned off? What happens then? Thanks - I'll investigate further tomorrow (swapping lenses, etc.) It doesn't bother me particularly - just found the behaviour somewhat odd and would like to understand. However, those who like to turn lens detection off altogether and do their corrections in post (see, for example, post #30 here http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m9-forum/274440-new-m-old-super-wide-2.html) may find this to be an issue. Guest WPalank Posted March 3, 2013 Share #10 Posted March 3, 2013 Thanks for posting Ecar. I agree with others it isn't much of a bug for ME. But if you say No, the camera should respond No.
