What should be the first lens to use on my M?

I suppose I'd suggest whichever lens you are most familiar with and understand best, so that you're better positioned to interpret the camera's qualities in isolation.

So for me it would be a 50, which also feels like the most neutral lens to me.

So if I was trying to be analytical in any serious way, a 50 Summilux ASPH would be the one. But a sense of curiosity and adventure may well lead elsewhere...

Whatever you choose, enjoy yourself. That's the most important part.

i would love to see how the new M handles ultra wide angle lens. perhaps you can try it out for us..since mine is still a long way away.

OK, I have a 15/2.8 R and a 19/2.8 R. That 15 is about as ultra as I can come up with. Sound OK? I do have an 18 Leica M.

@JB

As you know that will right up there at the top of the list. I must say I am more enthused to go for my R glass, but then again the APO 50 is calling me from my MM right now.

How about deciding what pics you'd like to make with your camera, and then put on whatever lens suits that purpose?

I find it hard enough to understand why some inquire about what lens (or focal length) they should buy, let alone ask help determining which one should they pull out of their bag Saturday at 2pm.

Just use it to meet your own style and preferences...and have fun doing it.

Agree Jeff- Just trying to involve those of must wait, that's all. I KNOW where I am going and with which lens or lenses.

I see the new FW affects wide lenses, so there must have been an issue already OR they forgot to include it in the few bodies they sent out.

A 5cm Elmar F/3.5.

Using it, or not, will decide if you are taking photographs for the banal sake of 'testing' the resolution of the M and its gimmicks, or taking photographs for the much better endeavour of taking photographs for the sake of photographs.

The most difficult to rangefinder-focus in the M series, and then a comparison of accuracy of evf/live view focus vs. rangefinder on the new camera. For myself I want to know which is which and get my lenses adjusted to coincide for both focus methods.

Give me your recommendations and why. Remember there are also R lenses to consider. Thanks. It's due here tomorrow.

Any non-M lens could be a good complement to the M system

But if you are thinking R or any non-M lens as the first lens on M, you are wasting money. You should go back to DSLR, such as 5Dx or D800x

Are you looking for advice on a new lens to buy or for which to use as the first lens of those you have? Your question is a bit unclear.

How can a question asking which lens to use, be unclear? I have a blank camera body-what lens should I mount on the camera body. Just looking for suggestions, that's all.
