Photoshop CS2 problem re on-screen tools

Every time I open Photoshop CS2 at a different screen resolution from the last session, the program insists on displaying a column of tools at the right-hand side of the screen – navigator, color, history and layers. Is there any way I stop it from doing this?

Selecting my saved workspace allows me to fairly quickly get rid of the unwanted screen clutter, but what I want to do is to prevent the software reverting to its default screen layout if I start it at a different screen resolution to what I was using last time I closed it.

 

I haven't found a way of getting the program to always autoload my saved workspace every time I start the software, irrespective of that the screen resolution has been set to.

 

It's the old problem of software manuals - until you have permanently learned the phraseology that the manufacturer uses to describe what you want to do, you cannot use the index to find find the instructions for what you want to do...

 

The 'How do I..." files that I compile for each item of software that I use is full of lines like:

 

"Click the little symbol that looks like two overlapping circles that is located near the top left of the screen...."

 

That sort of instruction will always make sense to me, but "Select the Contrast icon on the Primary Adjustments toolbar" will not.

CS2 is a long time ago and I can't remember the menu's, but if it is like the current CS at the top of the screen you should see a menu called 'Window' and when you open this a column a options that are either ticked or unticked. Untick the ones that are annoying you.
