EVF question

If we assume that EVF technology and implementation continues to improve will it be possible

to utilize a new and improved EVF on the M240 should one become available,by the same

manufacturer, sometime down the road or does the internal communication protocol

dictate that only the current finder works with the current camera and no retrofit would be possible?

There is no simple answer here. For instance the Olympus EV2 and EV3 (the latter is identical to the Leica offering) are both usable on Pen series cameras. However, on the XZ1, which takes the EV3, a firmware update is needed to accept the (newer) EV2.

HI Mark

I think that it's likely.

However, the EVF is pretty good anyway, if there is a shortcoming it's the refresh rate from the camera, and of course that won't be changed with a firmware update.

It might be possible to fit a higher resolution EVF (given that the M supports 1920 x 1080 pixels at 24/25 fps in movie mode), but that is just conjecture. Other key parameters such as latency and framerate are limited by the camera, not the viewfinder. And yes, a new EVF would probably require a firmware update.
