k-hawinkler Posted February 22, 2013 Share #2 Posted February 22, 2013 Hi George, That sure looks like horse heaven. A great picture as well. Where is this place? Thanks.
gshay Posted February 22, 2013 Author Share #3 Posted February 22, 2013 Karl, This one in North Texas____the horses are on the left, yearlings, at the end is 60 acres where the retired horses live out their years. More closer pictures to come. This pathway has always caught guests attention it is peaceful and very quiet. At this point you may call out the horse's names and they will come at a gallop and be waiting at the fence-line to meet you, for carrots of course. pauledell Posted February 22, 2013 Share #4 Posted February 22, 2013 George, A fine shot that could use a tad of sharpening to make it snappier. Where's the carrot patch for treating the horses? Paul

k-hawinkler Posted February 23, 2013 Share #7 Posted February 23, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi George, Those are beautiful horses indeed. The last one looks more like a mule though. Thanks.
gshay Posted February 23, 2013 Author Share #8 Posted February 23, 2013 LOLOL, Karl, It is a donkey! We Always put at least one per pasture!!! Horses are of course "flight animals", but donkeys will fight to the death protecting the horses! We have years of proof. And this might upset some, but the truth is: Donkeys are about 100% smarter then dear, beautiful horses, regardless of their breed. We love them all, equally! k-hawinkler Posted February 23, 2013 Share #9 Posted February 23, 2013 George, Many thanks for the explanations! Makes sense! You have quite an operation with all those many animals. Impressive! May I ask, what kind of proof? Fighting off what? Thanks.

So peaceful, and quiet. Wonderful "kids" right! George
k-hawinkler Posted February 24, 2013 Share #14 Posted February 24, 2013 Hi Karl, They have their "winter coats" on! What is you're altitude at this spot? And those beautiful capped mountains. So peaceful, and quiet. Wonderful "kids" right! George Hi George, Our altitude is about 6300 to 6400 feet, the Sangre de Cristos go slightly above 13,000 feet. The Santa Fe Ski Area to the top right goes from 10,350 to 12,075 feet. The horses will have their winter coats for another couple of months. Then they will transform into elegant beings with shiny coats. Yep, those horses are family. No doubt about it. Very gentle, but highly spirited.
