masjah Posted March 6, 2013 Share #41 Â Posted March 6, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Mark, go to the Leica website, and select Service, then Downloads.Select Rangefinder Cameras, then Leica M. Go down the list to Brochures, and download "Brochure Leica M". On Page 20 of the brochure, there is a nice picture of the M with EVF2, R-M adapter and a 28-90 zoom lens. The caption to the picture lists the R lenses that are supported in the camera firmware. (You can of course still use "unsupported" lenses, but you won't get specific vignetting correction etc. An obvious case in point would be the 28/2.8 PC R, where such in camera correction is clearly impossible because it would be a function of the amount of shift employed, which the camera has no way of knowing.) marknorton Posted March 7, 2013 Share #42 Â Posted March 7, 2013 Do we know trhat the camera provides built-in vignetting correction for R lenses?
masjah Posted March 7, 2013 Share #43 Â Posted March 7, 2013 Sorry Mark, I was speaking too loosely! On thinking about it, it couldn't really do that, because surely that would be aperture dependent, and the camera won't have that information. But there must be some sort of tailoring/profiling in the firmware for the listed lenses which gets implemented when the particular lens is selected from the menu list. Â "When the six-bit coded adapter is mounted on the camera, users may choose from more than 20 different R-Lenses that also offer both a calibrated image work flow and EXIF lens recognition." algrove Posted March 7, 2013 Share #44 Â Posted March 7, 2013 As the Leica R adapter is not yet available, last night on my first try with the R APO 180/2.8 I used my Novoflex R to M adapter and it worked flawlessly, except I was less than flawless in focusing without using focusing assist (FA). I wanted to see once back home how my focusing ability was without FA. I deemed it was needed for my eyes and the subject matter. Upon review it noted lens "not identified" or something to that affect. I used LV, but did not use the front button for FA. Â If you would like to see a picture, let me know. Now that I have this new beast for the entire day today, I will head out during the golden hour to see how something longer might work and this time I will use FA. marknorton Posted March 7, 2013 Share #45 Â Posted March 7, 2013 Well I would certainly be interested in seeing how the lens performs since I do not have an R to M adapter. I too have this lens and by all accounts it is quite spectacular. I know R glass has gone up in secondhand value recently but it remains good value compared to M glass. I've recently bought an 80-200 f4 for less than the cost of any new M lens, superbly made and mint condition.

I heard it can be done.
