falkk Posted February 18, 2013 Share #1 Posted February 18, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi colleagues, I got the new Summilux 35 recently. I am using it on my old and trusty M8. When I got the lens a few months back, the Leica-Shop gave me a free UV-Filter for the lens. But I wonder, if there is still some UV-sensibility. A lot of the blacks look an awful lot like the early pics, which I took with my M8, when I was not using these UV-Filters. I have a few lenses, which I uses since many years, and it seems, the various filters works pretty good. I would assume, that this new filter would also works perfect... is it my imagination that these pics have a purple tone? The shirt of the man was black... The extra one needed for the M8 was for Ultraviolet AND InfraRed (UV/IR) If you have a plain UVa filter it will not make any difference for InfraRed sensitivity. Your sample is probably also affected by the white balance setting and of course the type of light in your scene. Your sample is one where the IR contamination is very obvious with that degree of Magenta. If you cannot get the Leica UV/IR the B+W 486 should work fine for you. It may not fit inside the hood of your Summilux M 35 ASPH though. Some hood production fits the B+W filters and some did not. Mine did not. I think the part number for the Leica UV/IR in 46mm was #13411. I notice that Popflash in USA has it discounted on their website. richfx Posted February 19, 2013 Share #5 Posted February 19, 2013 I started with a Leica UV only filter on my 35mm Summilux FLE because the hood was reportedly too tight inside for a B+W clear 007 MRC filter, my first choice. Leica USA said there hadn't been a redesign of the hood to accommodate other brands' filters, though I heard otherwise anecdotally. This week, after discussing it with Justin Stailey at a Leica event (who recommended just screwing the hood over the B+W, even if it was snug going on), I did so. Things went fine, and when I unscrewed the hood, the filter came off with it (as Justin noted). I didn't try to pop the filter out of the hood to see whether either were scratched or damaged (figuring I might cause more problems), and the hood and filter now seem fine. Though I didn't notice any adverse IQ effects with the UV filter, I prefer to shoot with only clear protective glass in front of my lenses. If I might stumble a uv/ir filter here in China, I might give it a try. Anyway, I have to say, that the 35 'Lux is a whole new experience to me. I used a Voigtlander Nokton 35 mm 1,2 before, which makes very soft and creamy photos. I got used to it. But than I decided to get the new M with a 35 mm 'Lux. And while I wait for the M, I received the Lens. It's a completely different story with the 'Lux... In Lightroom, I got used to move the "Black" slider to the far left, than adjust the rest. With the 'Lux, I learned to move the "Black" slider even slightly to the right. The lens gives me very much contrast and is very sharp... Here a creamy Nokton-shot, wide open and a Summilux35 shot wide open - the Summilux still has the purple-tone, but I guess with the new M it should be just great: Welcome, dear visitor! He said that we should get it online. He helped me to search for it on the Taobao-Website. He bought it on Saturday, and it was delivered on Monday Morning. Around 440 RMB, which is 50 Euro.
