unclebob Posted February 2, 2013 Share #1 Posted February 2, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Bought an M8 today. I'm looking for a 28mm version 4 Elmarit. Couple of questions... Is there a difference between the V3 and V4? Where does the V3 and V4 serial numbers start? Thanks...Bob
Advertisement Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 Hi unclebob, Take a look here 28mm Elmarit version 4 serial numbers. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
sdk Posted February 2, 2013 Share #2 Posted February 2, 2013 According to my Leica Pocket Book (Hove, 8th Edition, 2012) The Version IV 28mm/2.8 lenses stared with serial # 3,585,865. The V.4 lens is very different from the V.3, being more compact, shorter and narrower, with a 46mm filter size compared to the V.3 with its 49mm filter size. The hood for the V.4 is not small but is smaller than the V.3. The optical design was very different in the V.4 with much improvement in image quality too. V.3 Started with serial # 2,977,551. I have not owned the V.4 28mm/2.8 lens, only the later ASPH version and the Summicron 28mm ASPH.

dpitt Posted February 2, 2013 Share #4 Posted February 2, 2013 The ASPH version can be had sometimes for not much more than the pre-ASPH version....
