Advertisement Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 Hi Northwest Wanderer, Take a look here Winter Morning. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
pauledell Posted January 28, 2013 Share #2 Posted January 28, 2013 A wonderful picture regardless of toning. I would have preferred a cold neutral tone to fit the atmosphere. Paul
stuny Posted January 28, 2013 Share #3 Posted January 28, 2013 NNW - Gorgeous, and the strong toning works well.
Northwest Wanderer Posted January 28, 2013 Author Share #4 Posted January 28, 2013 Thank you Paul & Stuart, I was not sure if I wanted to post this image or not. At first I thought it as a b&w. The sepia effect seemed to bring out a little more of the qualities I wanted in the image. I was trying to give the image the feel of a long depressing winter. Bright foreground giving way to a darker and flatter background. Guess you could say I'm ready for spring. LOL
Bill W Posted January 30, 2013 Share #5 Posted January 30, 2013 I also like the toning but would like to see the black & white version if possible. There is a lot of depth to your photo.
gearoido Posted January 30, 2013 Share #6 Posted January 30, 2013 A great example of Classic Chinese Landscape paintings. Did you read the article on Reichmann's site on the subject? GaryO
Northwest Wanderer Posted January 30, 2013 Author Share #7 Posted January 30, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Bill, here is the b&w version as you requested. Most of all, I wanted a feeling of depth in the image. Please tell me which version does that better. I'd be interested in your opinion. Gary, I've no knowledge of the Chinese Landscape style of painting. I'll make it a point to read Reichmann's site on the subject. Thank you for bringing that up. It sounds interesting. pauledell Posted January 30, 2013 Share #8 Posted January 30, 2013 I like your latest version better. It gives a more cold atmospheric feeling. Paul
Northwest Wanderer Posted January 30, 2013 Author Share #9 Posted January 30, 2013 Thanks Paul. I wasn't really sure just how to present the image. It's kind of an unusual shot. The hoar frost on the pine in the foreground tends to look odd if one is not use to seeing this form of frost. B&W seems to bring it out even more. Orient XI Posted February 2, 2013 Share #10 Posted February 2, 2013 Maybe even a colder blue toning would capture the atmosphere better. Gives me pleasant memories of my time in Pullman at WSU.
Northwest Wanderer Posted February 2, 2013 Author Share #11 Posted February 2, 2013 Orient, Here is the image with a blue cast. Must say I kind of like it. Thank you for your comment. Bill W Posted February 2, 2013 Share #12 Posted February 2, 2013 Bill, I prefer the black & white version best. It has the most realistic feel about the scene to me, cold and still. Would look great printed on canvas above your couch or fireplace!!
Northwest Wanderer Posted February 2, 2013 Author Share #13 Posted February 2, 2013 Thanks Bill, Glad you like it. I took the image from the deck of my home. I really need to shoot it again using a tripod. Cheers
Bill W Posted February 3, 2013 Share #14 Posted February 3, 2013 Lucky you, it is an incredible view and probably looks different each day. I have only been to Idaho once for a photo workshop at the Shepp Ranch. It is a great place to visit.
Northwest Wanderer Posted February 3, 2013 Author Share #15 Posted February 3, 2013 Bill, You are one lucky guy having gone to the Shepp Ranch. The ranch is in one of the most all around beautiful areas I've ever seen. Photography and world class salmon fishing near by. I live up north in the big lake region of the state, not far from Canada.
Bill W Posted February 3, 2013 Share #16 Posted February 3, 2013 It was a memorable trip in one respect because I took both Kodachrome and Fuji slide film. Kodak in Dallas processed all of my Kodachrome as E6. Because I am not a "professional" the only replaced the film. They said there was a lab problem.... I still had a lot good shots on Fuji..... Northwest Wanderer Posted February 3, 2013 Author Share #17 Posted February 3, 2013 That's too bad about the Kodachrome. I'd have been livid if they did that to me. Glad you had the Fuji film with you.
Iduna Posted February 4, 2013 Share #18 Posted February 4, 2013 Bill, this is a vary interesting study. A very good picture and I think the sepia version is my favourite for one reason. it makes the trees look like sculptures and this might have been the attraction at first sight and the impression. Although B&W seems to be more realistic. But the feeling then is different. It depends on taste also .All three versions do work and that is amazing.
