If you want to get your M7 back within the next 6-8 weeks go for Sherry K or Leica. Don will do a great job, but it might take 6 months.

fwiw, Don did the finder upgrade, a full CLA, and masked out frame lines I didn't want on my M6. He did the job within 5 weeks. He even sent the camera back to me before payment (he said "just send me a check.") When my meter failed (bad solder on one of the LEDs), he fixed it within 2 weeks and shipped it back to me before receiving payment. I never contact him while he has the camera. He'll send me an email to say he's done and is shipping the camera.

I have read second hand stories about 6 months and longer, but I wonder if there's another story behind it? Maybe those are much more difficult and unique requests?

Anyway, I've had excellent turn around and great service so I can only go by my own experience.

I've heard stories about Don doing a full CLA in 2 days, but also heard 1 year plus with little and cryptic communication. Ultimately I wouldn't hesitate sending him something complicated that needed to be done right.

At this point he's probably more qualified and just as well equiped to fix an M3/M2/M4 than many of the techs at Leica

I've used Don and Sherry for both lenses and cameras, and have had both fast and slow service from both. Generally I've found Don pays more attention to detail. I just received an early M3 back from Youxin Ye exactly two weeks after I sent it for curtain replacement - and I told him "no rush." His work appears good also.

Don is my only go to guy for my leica. He's approachable, answers email and works normal hours. He also stands behind his warranty and then some. He usually takes 6 to 12 weeks, but he also takes the time to make sure that what you want, becomes a reality. I'm sending him my second Leicaflex body to him so that it too is in working order.

Another vote for dag

Gentlemen, we are splitting hairs here. Don, Sherry or Gerry are all in the same league. For that matter you could also throw in CRR, who does things almost no one else does like real vulcanite replacement or re-cementing M2/M3 prism blocks. Don does a few things others won't. He re-silvered the prism block on my SL.

I've used all three over the past 15 years to keep 6 x M bodies and 3 x R running. Each of them has at one point or another revived a camera from the dead for me (cracked body shell, crushed top plate, RF transplant etc) without any hassle.

You really can't go wrong with any one of them, if you just need to have your camera serviced. They are all factory trained and have been doing this for a very long time.

Youxin is the new guy on the block, but he is quickly building a good reputation. A lot of people over on RFF use him.

If Youxin works on M7s (I don't know if he does), it will be the cheapest and fastest option.

I would go with Sherry Krauter.com -- Home of the Golden Touch.

She is second to none.

I heard that all the repair folks you all have mentioned do NOT work on M7's because of the electronics. Am I wrong?

Both Sherry and Gerry have worked on my M7. Gerry did a full overhaul on my M7 just about one year ago.

No, you are not wrong.

Edit: I didn't know Sherry did M7s. Can anyone confirm? Or is what she has done independent of the electronics?

Sherry worked on my M7, as did Kindermann.

DAG, Sherry (Golden Touch) and Kindermann (Gerry) all work on M7 bodies.

YYe doesn't list the M7 as a camera he will service.
