Kugelfest Posted January 18, 2013 Share #1 Posted January 18, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Have the opportunity to get an older summilux 35 pre-asph in great condition for a good price. I am aware of the focus shift issue for digital M's but havent heard if that also applies to film since i shoot film 95% of the time. Can you enlighten me here? Advertisement Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 Hi Kugelfest, Take a look here Summilux 35 pre-asph focus shift on film. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lct Posted January 18, 2013 Share #2 Posted January 18, 2013 My sample is a German one from 1989. Never got visible focus shift with film and i can hardly see it on digital (M8.2).
jaapv Posted January 18, 2013 Share #3 Posted January 18, 2013 It will be exactly the same on film, BUT... film has a thickness and is never 100% flat, so it is far less critical. You will hardly see it if at all.
russell Posted January 19, 2013 Share #4 Posted January 19, 2013 I've used this lens both on film and on the M8, M9. I've never had a problem with focus shift. Perhaps the minimum focusing distance of 0.9m helps?
lct Posted January 19, 2013 Share #5 Posted January 19, 2013 I wonder if the focus shift issue the OP's referring to is not that of the 35/1.4 asph instead of 35/1.4 pre-asph.
jaapv Posted January 19, 2013 Share #6 Posted January 19, 2013 I didn't spot that one:( I think you are right.
xalo Posted January 19, 2013 Share #7 Posted January 19, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Don't let the opportunity pass -- it's a superb lens. On film I never noticed any focus shift. On the RD-1 I did, but that's likely due to the camera. Get the hood, mine flared easily (later copies supposedly less so). Be prepared for softer to 'glowing' f1,4, sharper f2 than the Summicron vs. IV and most beautiful out-of-focus rendering. Perhaps I should not have sold mine... lct Posted January 19, 2013 Share #8 Posted January 19, 2013 Probably the lens i would keep if i were allowed only one.

colmac Posted April 5, 2013 Share #10 Posted April 5, 2013 Bonjour Alexander, My (1986) 35mm Lux still produces nice results like this pic taken on BW400CN and subsequently scanned. Hand held, no screens, no post-processing apart from scratch removal on the neg (M4-P since sent for CLA). Lovely grain n’est pas? Colmac Welcome, dear visitor!
