Summilux 35 pre-asph focus shift on film

Have the opportunity to get an older summilux 35 pre-asph in great condition for a good price.

 

I am aware of the focus shift issue for digital M's but havent heard if that also applies to film since i shoot film 95% of the time.

 

Can you enlighten me here?

My sample is a German one from 1989. Never got visible focus shift with film and i can hardly see it on digital (M8.2).

It will be exactly the same on film, BUT... film has a thickness and is never 100% flat, so it is far less critical. You will hardly see it if at all.

I've used this lens both on film and on the M8, M9. I've never had a problem with focus shift. Perhaps the minimum focusing distance of 0.9m helps?

I wonder if the focus shift issue the OP's referring to is not that of the 35/1.4 asph instead of 35/1.4 pre-asph.

Don't let the opportunity pass -- it's a superb lens. On film I never noticed any focus shift. On the RD-1 I did, but that's likely due to the camera. Get the hood, mine flared easily (later copies supposedly less so). Be prepared for softer to 'glowing' f1,4, sharper f2 than the Summicron vs. IV and most beautiful out-of-focus rendering. Perhaps I should not have sold mine...

Bonjour Alexander,

My (1986) 35mm Lux still produces nice results like this pic taken on BW400CN and subsequently scanned. Hand held, no screens, no post-processing apart from scratch removal on the neg (M4-P since sent for CLA). Lovely grain n’est pas?
