AlanYWM Posted October 1, 2014 Share #21 Â Posted October 1, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Please allow me to add a few comments here regarding Leica's supposedly better quality control. Â I have been a Leica user since the days of the R system. At that time, I preferred SLR cameras. I remembered buying a new APO Macro100mm f2.8 ROM. I took it for granted that Leica being Leica, there should not be any problem with the lens. So I took it home and did not even checked it until one week later. When I took it out of the dry cabinet to use it, I realised there was a scratch (about 2 cm) inside one of the elements The scratch was very obvious. Luckily, the shop was able to exchange a new lens for me since the scratch was internal. Â So much for Leica quality control. Â I am not condemning Leica for poor quality control. I think this is a problem with all manufacturers. It is just that some Leica fans think too highly of Leica and expect it to be perfect (Perhaps this is because Leica lenses are not cheap by any standard). Hand assembled lenses doesn't mean better quality. Humans make mistakes.
