Gorilla glass vs. sapphire glass

I strongly suspect that Leica will still offer the P variant, or whatever it will be called, with Sapphire Glass - just to help differentiate. Gorilla Glass is cheap enough that it will be the standard version now.

As a jeweler, let me say that sapphire crystal is not brittle. It is one of the hardest materials on earth, it can only be scratched by diamonds. Diamonds on the other hand are scratch free but very brittle. A sapphire screen is not more brittle than a glass screen, in the contrary, it is much more shock resistant. Plastic screens are the most shock resistant because they're resilient, but they scratch easily. Both glass and sapphire because of their mineral crystalline structure will break if enough power is applied, but the main reason is the large surface and quite thin profile.
