Willwors Posted January 1, 2013 Share #1 Posted January 1, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi there - I've just acquired an M2 body. 1965. Seems to shoot nicely with accurate shutter speeds and is in good cosmetic nick generally. However, with the body cap off and no lens mounted, this area (in front of shutter curtains) seems to be a bit grubby / slightly marked inside. Is this likely to be a problem or effect image quality? Would it be advisable to clean myself or should I give it to someone with more know how? Many thanks.
Advertisement Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 Hi Willwors, Take a look here Quick M2 Question. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
rpsawin Posted January 2, 2013 Share #2 Posted January 2, 2013 Run a roll of film or two thru it and look closely at the negatives. In any case it's probably time to have a CLA done...it will be like new.
Michael Geschlecht Posted January 2, 2013 Share #3 Posted January 2, 2013 Hello Willwors, Welcome to the Forum. If you are referring to the inside being sort of "flat" & "soft" looking instead of "shiny": The flatness of the black & apparent softness of the surface are part of the inside's manner of absorbing excess & stray light. It is supposed to look that way. The dull surfaces inside an M2 are relatively soft & it is better not to touch them w/ your fingers or anything else. Try a roll of slide film or look @ the negatives, not the prints, from a roll of print film. If everything works OK & the slides/negatives are properly exposed you probably don't need a CLA. Best Regards, Michael
250swb Posted January 2, 2013 Share #4 Posted January 2, 2013 Would it be advisable to clean myself or should I give it to someone with more know how? Yes clean it yourself if it is dirt, use a good quality cotton bud (Q Tip) that isn't going to leave any fibres behind and just lick it to gather the dust. If it is scuffed paint leave it, it probably won't make any difference at all. You aren't going to damage anything unless you start prodding the shutter curtains.
