George Hart Posted January 5, 2013 Share #24 Posted January 5, 2013 Sorry what do you mean by upshot? I meant outcome, in particular what feedback you got as to the explanation.
Saad Posted January 5, 2013 Author Share #25 Posted January 5, 2013 Dear George, well I got a refund from B&H but not for shipping. I paid $100 to ship here, $250 to ship to B&H and a non refundable $400 customs duty. That is on the first lens. On the second which was also bought from B&H I will be returning it soon at the exact same loss. I am still grateful to B&H that I could actually return it and not have to send a brand new $7,000 for repair. B&H do not have another one in stock but Adorama does :-) Or it may be the new Voig 21 f1.8 :-( The Zeiss 15 ZM is such a beautiful lens but slow and really bad off center. If upshot was something positive then I would say that it is a rare and really exciting opportunity to actually unbox 3 Summilux 21s. OK at a cost of $750 per unboxing, the price of a nice new lens. k_g_wolf ✝ Posted January 5, 2013 Share #26 Posted January 5, 2013 B&H should have exhanged it for free and sort things out with their distrubutor, IMO. Could your decision for a second order be a bit of an overkill ? Best GEORG
Paul J Posted January 5, 2013 Share #27 Posted January 5, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Personally I would not accept, at all, having to pay for shipping on a faulty item like that. It was the responsibility of Leica to ship that lens out and that is not something a customer should ever have to carry the burden and cost of. If my prints were defective there is no way in hell I would let the customer pay for their return. It is the responsibility of B+H in this instance to take care of their customer and liaise with Leica. Personally I see this as a reflection on B+H and it's this kind of story that will stop me from buying from them.
Saad Posted January 5, 2013 Author Share #28 Posted January 5, 2013 Thank you for your comments Paul. To be fair to B&H I am sure if I keep asking they will do that, I asked them once to give me a store credit to cover shipping from them to me, and that was before returning the lens to them, but I am sure I have to call them again. Also they usually send a prepaid shipping from me to them, but I did not want to wait for that. Sorry if I gave the impression of injustice by B&H. They are only guilty of not acting on their own to satisfy their customer in such a circumstance. k-g-wolf my decision to get the second one was based on the fact that B&H had one in stock so I had to go for it or wait for God knows how long.
