I so far have 5 lenses for my Ricoh GXR:

15 mm CV

24 mm Elmar

35 mm Summarit

75 mm Summarit

90 mm Tele-Elmarit (thin)

With plans to obtain a used M9 soon, I am thinking about selling the 75 mm lens to obtain a 50 mm (Leica M) lens which is my most favoured focal length. I intend to stick to a maximum of 5 lenses. Am wondering about a used 50 mm Summicron or I may push the boat out and get a 50 mm asph Lux as my final lens.

I would be really interested to see how many lenses people have and how frequently they use them.

I am trying to keep my 'selection' not 'collection' to a sensible number and seem to buy as many as I sell

I have 5 lenses: 28mm 2.8, 35mm 2.0, 50 mm 2.0, 90 mm 2.5 and a MATE (28/35/50). The 35 is my favorite lens and the most used, next the 50. Interestingly, in my DSLR years ,my favorite prime was a 50mm lens. I use the MATE primarily when traveling. The 28 and 90 do not get much use, less than I anticipated when I bought them.

I own far too many:( - I tend to make sets of three or four that I prefer per camera. And then I switch them around a bit according to the images I want to take. I do not like carrying bags full of lenses. Three or four is more than enough. Often I will take only two or even one.

I must say many replies remind me of someone I know. The new M has swelled my lens collection/inventory, but now with R lenses of which I had not one prior to 17 September of this year.

Hate to think if Leica starts developing and releasing long M lenses that end up being superior to the best long R lenses.

I have three groups of M lenses : lightweight , fast and specialist.

Zeiss 21/4.5 , 35/2.8 , 50/1.5 and 85/4.0

Leica 21/1.4 , 28/2 , 35/1.4 , 50/1.4 , 90/2.0

Voigtlander 12/5.6 ; Leica 50/0.95 , 180/3.4

Which are carried depends very much on the situation.

Today I will take the 21/1.4 , 35/1.4 and 50/0.95 as its in town shooting with hours of winter darkness.

i carry with me 3 lens at a time. a 21 35 50. owning it though is another question...i own 4 different 50mm...

Same here, mostly three lenses in my bag, of which a 35 and a 90 are more or less permanent. I change between 24 and the Summilux 50 or Elmar 50 as the third lens. Since the trade-in of the M8 for the M9 the VC 15mm keeps on waiting for chances to come along.

I have a -lot- of lenses, Like many others I don't like to carry a lot, so vary things depending on what I am doing/where I am going.

My 35 f1.4 Aspherical used to be my most used lens, but probably I more often have the tri-elmar on the camera nowadays.

Usually I have the 2 tri-elmars, 90 macro and 50 f1.4 with me. I have the 90 f2 and 28 f2 with me on holiday at the moment too.

35mm is my most used WA lens, I very rarely shoot wider despite having plenty of wider choices.

I could still be completely happy with the old 35/50/90 set.

I find the 90 most naturally replicates my eyes as I notice things, but usually need wider for a photograph.

Its the same as with my fishing rods, I always one short :D. For fishing rods I would say if you know your number you're having to few :D:D

When travelling I bring 2 max 3 lenses. Back home Im embarresed to say that I have L WATE, L28/2,8, L35/1,4, L50/2, L90/4, L135/4. And other brands 28/4 and two 50/1,5.

P.S. Are you making any final statistics based on this thread?

What a good idea, it will be interesting for me and others I am sure. If only to feel less guilty about too much glass

I currently have ;

21 Elmarit 2.8 ASPH

24 Elmarit 2.8 ASPH

28 Summicron 2.0 ASPH

35 Summilux 1.4 ASPHERICAL

35 Summaron 2.8

50 Summilux 1.4 pre ASPH

50 Elmar-m 2.8

75 Summilux 1.4 (on its way)

Plus a 50 1.0 Nictilux in the new year. I will probably sell the 21 and one 50 in the new year.

I will get my spreadsheet out and look to report back on focal lengths and numbers owned by those who are kind enough to post.

Perhaps too many:

21 mm/4.0 Voigtländer Color Skopar

28 mm/2.8 Elmarit ASPH

35 mm/2 Summicron

50 mm/2.8 Elmar

50 mm/2 Summicron

50 mm/1.4 Summilux ASPH

65 mm/3.5 Elmar

90 mm/2.8 Tele-Elmarit

90 mm/2 Summicron

135 mm/4.5 Hektor

135 mm/4 Elmar

200 mm/4 Telyt

I use all regularly, they have their individual advantages and drawbacks. However I managed with 35, 50 and 90 mm for many years. But mostly I now use the 35 or the 50 mm lenses. Next purchase will perhaps be a 35 mm Summilux...

Well, I guess it's confession time. I have 23 lenses, from 12mm to 560mm. I can divide them in to two groups, General, and Visoflex.

I normally only have no more than four lenses (with two bodies), unless I am doing something specific. Today I am shooting with only my f1 Noctilux (Monochrom).

9 of my lenses are used primarily with the Visoflex (Bellows)/Focoslide-M/Copy stand.

I have chosen lenses for both there sharpness and the softness, so I ended up with a variety of normal lenses. Then there is the MATE, WATE, and Macro-Elmar...

Actually, having thought about it, whilst I have 4 lenses which will cover virtually all situations which I want to use a RF camera for (fairly 'modern' 21/35/50/90 lenses). I would like to build up an 'older' 21/35/75 set as an alternative system. I have a 21SA but the fast 35 and 75 Mandlers are becoming too expensive even for 'user' copies, so I'm not sure whether this will ever happen.

I'm mostly a collector, with 39 LTM (35mm to 135mm) and 57 M (12mm to 135mm) lenses. When it comes to actually using them, I mainly use my 24mm Elmarit/35mm Summicron on my M8.2 and my 35mm Summiilux/50mm Summilux on my M9. It's fun to try lenses with a different look from time to time, but these are my favorites. I'm a creature of habit...

Leica Summilux-M 50/1,4 ASPH (MP3)
