!Nomad64 Posted December 30, 2012 Share #63 Posted December 30, 2012 You cannot understand my ordeal. Even babies laugh at me when i take photographs. http://tinyurl.com/cg53y4q Nice pic btw. What lens did you use? Maybe I may want one myself... Cheers, Bruno
BrendanD Posted December 30, 2012 Share #64 Posted December 30, 2012 5 lenses for me. 21/35/50/75/90 I have had an M9 since 2010, and am thinking of adding an M Monochrom. I started with a used 35 Summilux ASPH pre-FLE, which I love and use for about 70% of my street photography. I added a 75 Summicron ASPH for portraits usually. Its a beautiful lens. Then a 90 Elmarit final version which I picked up for £500. Its good for when I just want a bit more reach, although the bokeh isn't quite up to the 75. On the wide end I had an Elmarit 24 ASPH for a bit, but hardly ever used it, so replaced it with a CV 21mm Color Skopar f4, which I also hardly use, mainly because I find the accessory finder a real pain. Its strange because with my Nikon gear I used the wide end of the 24-70 an awful lot, maybe too much. The 35 is usually wide enough and has no distortion. Recently I've been doing some studio photography and have added the 50mm summilux ASPH. Very similar rendering to the 75, but stops me shouting at the model from the far wall! I will also use this on the street sometimes. Future purchases? Thinking of a 28mm instead of the 21.

MarkP Posted December 30, 2012 Share #66 Posted December 30, 2012 OK. It's time for me to own up. Fourteen. Far too many as I had originally only wanted three - 21, 35, 75: 1.4/21 Summilux ASPH 3.4/21 SEM ASPH 2.0/28 Summicron ASPH 1.4/35 Summilux ASPH FLE 2.5/35 Summarit 1.4/50 Summilux ASPH/FLE 2.0/75 Summicron ASPH 4.0/90 Macro-Elmar 3.4/135 APO-Telyt 1.0/50 Noctilux E60 (on permanent loan from a friend) 2.8/28 Super-Angulon-R (just procured for the M) and a few others because I like them, and/or I'm less fussed about using them if I'm going somewhere where I would be worried about the more expensive and difficult-to-replace Leica lenses: 4.5/21 ZM C-Biogon (fantastic lens, red-edge on the M9 but not a problem on the Monochrom) 1.5/50 ZM C-Sonnar (lovely lens, thanks for the recommendation Bill) 2.5/75 CV Color-Heliar 3.4/90 CV APO-Lanthar I usually go out with one to three lenses. I only take more on trips. too many lenses but now no plans for more....except maybe an E49 MATE at some time:rolleyes:
!Nomad64 Posted December 30, 2012 Share #67 Posted December 30, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Oh well... may I come to play with you guys? Inherited from my father: Canon Serenar 35/2.8 LTM Canon Serenar 50/1.5 LTM Canon Serenar 85/1.5 LTM Canon Serenar 135/3.5 LTM Bought for the IIIf: Summaron 28/5.6 Summaron 35/3.5 Elmar 50/3.5 RS Summitar 50/2 Elmar 90/4 Bought for the M3: Summaron 35/2.8 goggled Bought for the M8/M9: Elmarit 24/2.8 Asph Summilux 50/1.4 PreAsph Elmarit M 90/2.8 Summicron 90/2.8 AAsph Bought for relative rarity and good reputation: CV Heliar 50/3.5 101st Anniversary LTM Rollei Sonnar 40/2.8 LTM 16 lenses so far, quite too much but I can't resolve to sell any. Every time I try getting rid of something there are always some reasons telling me to not to do... the Canons because they were my father's, the Leitz LTMs because the IIIf needs them and because some of them are amongst my favorite and anyway I like them all, the M mounts because I need the extra speed and because one can pry the Summilux only from my cold dead hands... Use frequency: For everyday commuting: Summaron 28 always on camera, Summaron 35/3.5 or Summilux 50 as back up; For theater/stage: Summilux 50 & Summicron 90 AAsph; Former favorite travel combo (with M8): Elmarit 24/2.8 + Summilux 50 + Elmarit 90/2.8; For daily treks (hunting for landscapes): Elmarit 24/.8 (now often replaced by the Summaron 28) + Summaron 35/2.8 + Summilux 50 + Elmarit 90/2.8 (now often replaced by the Elmar 90/4). If I ever had to save one only: 'lux 50 If I ever had to save two only: 'ron 28 + 'lux 50 If I ever had to save three only: 'ron 28 + 'lux 50 + 'cron 90 AAsph Cheers, Bruno
Manolo Laguillo Posted December 30, 2012 Share #68 Posted December 30, 2012 Ten in total: 18/4 Zeiss Distagon 21/3,4 Super Elmar 24/3,8 ASPH Elmarit 28/2,8 ASPH Elmarit 28/2,8 PC-Super-Angulon-R 35/2 ASPH Summicron 40/2 Rokkor 50/2,5 Summarit 65/3,5 Elmar 75/2,5 Summarit I own therefore every focal length from 18 to 75. I prefer using light and small lenses, and like very much the quality of the more modern designs. I use them as follows: 1st possibility: 40, 28, 21 (the one I like the most in these days, the 40/2 Rokkor is a formidable lens, and the 40mm matches exactly how I see :-) ) 2nd possibility: 35, 24, 50 3rd possibility: 28/2,8 PC I use very rarely the 18 and 75, but it's good to have them in case need arises. The Zeiss Distagon 18 is a terrific glass, and it would be injustifiable to spend much more money for the equivalent Leica lens. The 65 is for reproducing, mounted on a Visoflex III. lumini Posted December 31, 2012 Share #69 Posted December 31, 2012 Well, it is not often that I feel that I am not spending enough on Leicas! I have only three, which I have had for 15 years or more, first on my M6 and now the M9, and have never really wanted more: 35mm Summicron v.4. - 80% 50mm Summilux pre-aspherical. - 15% 90mm Elmarit-M - 5% I rarely take more than one lens with me. Having sort of retired to the Somerset Levels which are all sky and, well, level I am actually thinking of a 28 or 24 Elmarit since I cannot fit it all in with the 35mm. I have to force myself to use the 90mm. It is a lovely lens but it rarely suits how I want to photograph. Geoff

IWC Doppel Posted December 31, 2012 Author Share #71 Posted December 31, 2012 Unfortunately after doing a deal on a F1 Noctilux advertised on the forum in December and setting the money aside for finalisation of delivery in the New year I have been let down as the lens is 'no longer available' I missed a later mint boxed lens for the same money, I would have bought and had earlier but after agreeing a deal I foolishly stuck to it....... Bill W Posted December 31, 2012 Share #73 Posted December 31, 2012 Remember this - buying Leica lenses is far better than leaving your money in the bank. You have an appreciating asset that will always be worth more than what you paid for it and will give you years of great pictures - lenses are a great way of saving money, it's a win win no brainer!! This is what I keep telling my wife;)
IWC Doppel Posted December 31, 2012 Author Share #74 Posted December 31, 2012 Did the seller just renege? Pete. Yep ........ I suspect I was a back up and kept hanging around as we agreed asking including shipping, either I would pick up when he travelled with work 10 miles away or it was to be couriered. farnz Posted December 31, 2012 Share #75 Posted December 31, 2012 Sorry to hear that, I know how frustrating that can be. I had a similar occurrence with an oriental seller over an MP with M7 rewind crank through GetDPI. I'd already paid the full price and he backed out with profuse but meaningless apologies. Fortunately I got my money back but only after Paypal had fondled the not inconsiderable for two weeks for no particular reason. Leaves a very nasty taste in the mouth and I hope the forum member concerned in your case is reading this. Pete.

AB007 Posted January 1, 2013 Share #78 Posted January 1, 2013 I have the following M lenses: 28/2.8 ASPH 35/2 ASPH 50/2.5 50/2 DR (two) 50/1.4 ASPH 50/.95 90/2 APO (two) I am very tempted to buy the 21/3.4 SEM, 35/1.4 FLE and 90/4 Macro. Happy New Year!
Stealth3kpl Posted January 1, 2013 Share #79 Posted January 1, 2013 I also have a problem Initial outfit was 15/4.5 voigt 24 Elmarit Asph 35/2 mk4 50/2 mk4 90/2 Then I thought I'd get a couple of lenses to role around my rucsack whilst treking: 25/4 Voigt 35/3.5 Summaron 50/2.5 elmar 90/4 Elmar Then I sent the 35/2 mk 4 for a service but Malcolm was taking forever to get around to it so I bought a 35/2 Asph with a holiday looming. Then I was away in Paris and the light was poor for my favourite film and I saw two bargains: 35/1.4 FLE 50/1.4 Asph Then I thought a 28/2Asph would be a nice lens to accompay the 50/1.4 for a 2 lens kit. I rarely use the 15mm, 24 Elmarit, 35/2mk4 and 90/2. I must get around to selling them. I'm going to keep the 35/3.5 Summaron and 50/2.5 elmar to live on my M2s when film is no longer available. My present thinking is: one lens kit: 35/1.4 FLE 2 lens kit 28/2Asph and 50/1.4Asph 3 lens kit 24 Elmarit (maybe replaced by a 21Elmar:rolleyes:), 35/2Asph, 50/2 And that's that .........maybe Pete
LucisPictor Posted January 1, 2013 Share #80 Posted January 1, 2013 After trying, shooting and playing with approx. 200 lenses for my (D)SLRs, I fell in love with the compact and yet capable rangefinder lenses. My set is now "complete":* Voigtländer Super-Wide Heliar 4.5/15 Voigtländer Ultron 2.0/28 Voigtländer Ultron 1.7/35 Leitz Summitar 2.0/5cm (Jupiter-3 1.5/50 П) (Jupiter-8 2.0/50 П) Voigtländer Color-Heliar 2.5/75 (Leitz Elmar 4/90) (Leitz Hektor 4.5/135) all on the M8 and the NEX-7. (The ones in the brackets are not always in my bag.) * Yes, I know, that word should never be used when it comes to gear and normally arouses laughter in all fellow GAS patients.
