Time to fess up. Sold old M and LTM lenses 15 years ago.

In 1999 got 24 Elmarit, 35 summicron (current), 90 Elmarit (latest) and 135 tele elmar. Those did me fine for M6 and then M7 for 10 years.

The M9P came along and with it began more travel and concert work.

So got the 75 Lux for concert and later the 50 Lux (asph). For travel added the 18 3.4 and the MATE. Then last month Santa paid an early visit with the 75 Summicron for travel and maybe concert work too. The 50 Summicron was a gift from my brother-in-law so that makes 10.

Yes use all of them. For concert: 35, 50 lux and 75 lux. For travel 18, 35, MATE, 50 lux, 75 Cron and 135 which have now in LA. Used all except 35 so far -- pretty evenly in fact.

75 Lux and 50 Cron may get traded in future...will see. Now that wasn't so hard!

That's right I just bought 2 more Noctilux's for USD70! Cheap. That makes 4 now.

You know, swamiji's comment is really a good one where he says he has chosen lenses for their sharpness and softness. Well put.

I have chosen lenses also for those reasons, but also for their more warmth versus less warmth too. I was going through the price list booklet I got at Photokina and realized I have all the M lenses one could own baring the current 28/2.8. Actually I have multiple copies of some-don't ask. I do not have any Summarits.

I love the Mandler designed M lenses so have plenty of those. I discovered I also have multiple copies of some of those too (also don't ask), like the 11310,11800, & 11807.

I have a couple of Visoflex and some lenses for them (like a 480/4.8), but have never used them to date. Yes, this is confession time. Don't ask.

Now to R lenses. Well, let's just say on 16 September I did not own a one. That has changed now since I have from 15-500mm with a bunch of wide and telephoto zooms & fixed teles in between and yes I already have some multiples of this type of lens too-don't even think about asking.

I rotate using most of my lenses even if I have to use a non-Leica body to use them. Oh, I also have some Zeiss ZM lenses. I do not have multiples of any Zeiss lens.

I made a mistake of one day of putting all the Leica leather lens cases on a shelf and my wife walked in and said, "You own that many lenses?" What could I say? So I said nothing and took a sip of my favorite drink.

I prefer taking on an outing from home from 1 to 3 lenses depending on the situation and destination, maybe 4 if I go out with 2 bodies. Lately, I like taking the little Billingham (don't know the name of it) so as to force me to select 2 bodies with a lens mounted on each and no more. From home I never would have taken 2 bodies before the MM came out.

28 elmarit. 35 summicron 50 summilux 75 apo summicron 135 tele elmar 1965 vintage. Can't say I use all regularly and if I had to drop to 2 it would 28 and 50 and if one the 50. But the others are fun and have their good uses

Not too bad. I would add a dozen Zeiss lenses to avoid monomania though. :D

Monomania-that's an interesting choice of words. I have plenty of other Zeiss lenses for other systems which I assumed was not the subject of this thread.

Hey a question. If you do street photography ever in France, what kind of reactions do you get from people in your images? I understand it's a no-no in France.

Hilarity, disbelief or consternation. Hard to be a crappy photographer when one looks exactly like that... (stop to harm yourself my wife says) :D

Well I can understand if you dress like your avatar out on the streets of say Paris. Then again in large cities people give a short glance and then continue on about their day.

lct-Was that you who asked about the lens hood 12466 on the 28/2.0?

It bothers me when using it with the standard M9 base plate, but when I put on the RRS QR base plate made for the M9 (RRS BM9-B) it raises the M9 just enough to stop the hood #12466 from hitting the table.

Surely you mean the 280mm f/4.8?

15mm Voigtlander

35mm Summilux (early non-asph) - in fact my 4th one over the decades.

50mm Summitar - Coated version with round aperture

50mm Canon F/.95 properly adapted - for dire emergencies, rarely used - my 4th one

75mm Summilux

That's just all I need or will ever need.

I found this thread interesting as I am building a rangefinder kit. The following are my desired bodies and lenses including several pending acquisitions. This is a reduction, as I sold 6 Nikon mount prime lenses to help fund the rangefinder kit. Hopefully this 3 lens rangefinder kit will cover the majority of my needs.

D800E | 24-120/4 | 70-200/4

M240 | 21/3.4 | 35/1.4 | 50/2

RX100

By saying 50/2, which lens are you thinking of getting?

I see you enjoy the 800e. I was going to get it and then held off even though I bought the latest best in quality Nikon 2.8/70-200 and the 2.8/24-70. Now that the 600 is out and it is FF also, what have you heard about its performance with good lenses? Here in the US they are giving you a USD570 wide zoom when buying the 600 of USD1996. I only wanted them as I am older and thought AF would be handy for wildlife or fast moving subjects.
