Albert Andersen Posted December 5, 2012 Share #1  Posted December 5, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi. I have just bought a Summilux 50 mm 1,4 in crome. On the test papers, and on the box there is an oval red mark as shown in the picture below. What does it mean? Is it a repaired lens or? My other M lenses do not have that mark. Moggele Posted December 9, 2012 Share #4 Â Posted December 9, 2012 I have just bought a Summilux 50 mm 1,4 in crome. Â New from dealer or second hand?
dr. rOb Posted December 9, 2012 Share #5 Â Posted December 9, 2012 I have one too on my copy of the Summilux 50 asph..I was wondering as well if that could mean some problems with the lens.. Â rOb
hoppyman Posted December 9, 2012 Share #6 Â Posted December 9, 2012 There is no reason to speculate that it may mean the lens is inferior or has been repaired. I would guess that it is a stamp from a quality control process.
aesop Posted December 9, 2012 Share #7 Â Posted December 9, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) ...Albert, I just checked my 50/1.4 ASPH (black version, catalogue #11891). There is no such oval mark, or indeed any other mark, on the test certificate, apart from the usual model and serial numbers (and barcodes). To my eyes, the lens is mechanically and aesthetically perfect. Focus is as spot on as it was straight out of the box. Hope this helps.

philipus Posted December 9, 2012 Share #9  Posted December 9, 2012 Only my Summilux 35 FLE has this mark. Unfortunately I don't know what it means though perhaps it has something to do with the red stamp which says "Ausstellungsware: Funktionssicherheit wird gewährleistet", ie showmodel checked for proper function and under Leica warranty. earleygallery Posted December 10, 2012 Share #11 Â Posted December 10, 2012 Yes it appears to relate to demonstration gear, checked over by Leica before sale.

I would guess so as well but it's the first time i see such a stamp, thanks for sharing.
wattsy Posted December 10, 2012 Share #13 Â Posted December 10, 2012 Yes, I can confirm this. I've bought a number of official ex-demo lenses from Leica in recent years and all had the red oval on the box, paperwork and on the bar coded label stuck on the plastic bag that the lens is ultimately packaged inside. Albert Andersen Posted December 10, 2012 Author Share #14 Â Posted December 10, 2012 Thank you for your comments. I have contacted my local Leica agent, and he told me it is an order from my dealer for demo purposes. The demos will normally be forwarded in the production line to satisfied the dealer. It is a normal production with any changes from normal production - only handled as "express". Regards Albert
Messsucherkamera Posted December 10, 2012 Share #15 Â Posted December 10, 2012 Even if it is a former demo lens, I would not lose sleep over that fact - particularly if it was reinspected by Leica prior to entering the retail market.
thighslapper Posted December 10, 2012 Share #16 Â Posted December 10, 2012 They all go back to solms to be checked and brought up to ' as new' condition for sale with a full Leica warranty. Leica Mayfair often have items and are usually 10-15% below list.

Exodies Posted May 7, 2014 Share #18 Â Posted May 7, 2014 My dealer told me a different story - as part of the ISO manufacturing quality certification (I forget the number) a proportion of goods has to be taken from the end of the chain, opened and inspected. The same standards specify that items cannot be injected into the chain, so these goods cannot be put back in the production line, repackaged and sold as new. Hence they are marked with an o and sold as such at a discount. So, not demoed, just looked at.
luigi bertolotti Posted May 7, 2014 Share #19 Â Posted May 7, 2014 Albert's item has the "O" but NOT the additional stamp evidenced by Philipus on his box... and I saw such a stamp on a lens' box at the dealer where I bought my M... (but it was 4 months ago and don't remember if it had the "O" too) ... i tend to think is not a demo, and the "inspection" hipotesis seems to me more probable ; I think that Leica, directly contacted, could give an answer. Gerard Posted May 8, 2014 Share #20 Â Posted May 8, 2014 I have purchased many ex demo items. Including my m9p. My boxes have orange green and yellow dot stickers on them. All have worked flawlessly. I prefer ex demo as I assume they are checked and cleared as within correct tollerances. Plus they are discounted.
