50mm Summarit f/2.5 problems

Recommended Posts

I bought a "like new" M6 TTL last week (serial number denotes a 1999 model) with only three rolls run through it and have fallen head over heels in love with it. Problem is, the 50mm Summarit that I've been using on my M8 will not mount correctly to it. The lens will fit into the mount but will not twist and lock. The issue is particularly strange in that the lens mounts and focuses perfectly on my M8 and Voigtlander R4a as well as my friends' M3's, M2's, and M4's. Furthermore, all lenses that I've used on my M6; 50mm Summilux, 50mm Summicron, 35mm Summicron, 75mm Summilux, an older collapsible 50mm and even my voigtlander, zeiss and konica lenses mount and focus perfectly.

I suppose I should mention that the Leica hood that I bought for the Summarit fit's a tad crooked (very slightly diagonal to the horizontal body lines on whatever camera I've mounted it to) but I can't imagine this having anything to do with the issue I'm having with the M6 as it has mounted just fine to other cameras, crooked hood or not. I know every company makes mistakes some times but this is really bugging me.

Sometimes there is a tolerance "stack up" problem. The 50 could be on one side and the camera off the same way. Hence it will not mount. I have had this happen .

Leica will need to sort it out.

Original owner of a mint-condition 30-90-S.  Works as it should. Leica upgraded AF in 2018 and barely used since then. Time to get this a new home.  Includes:
lens caps original box outer box lens bag manual AF repair paperwork I think it's priced to sell. Wire transfer only please, plus shipping + insurance (charged at actual cost). Me and the lens located in Seattle, USA.  I will be selling some other similar mint, new-AF lenses shortly.  So much gear to go (contact me and we can arrange a video call to see).
      Twelve High resolution pictures here.
You may find me on that auction site as dritz40 if you wish more background.

      Hello everyone,
as I mentioned before I have been working on a comparison of Leica M 50mm lenses.
I compared 10 of them. I ended up with an enormous amount of information and really long articles.
You can read the whole thing, only the summaries, or only the conclusions.
I am posting it here because I hope it's going to be a good resource for the community, clarifying quite a few doubts and answering a lot of questions that are often asked here. I would love to see a discussion coming out of it here on the forum, we all have different opinions and my conclusion might differ from yours. If so, do tell! I want conversation!
The article is in 4 parts:
https://www.47-degree.com/focus-shift/leica-m-50mm-lens-comparison-part-1, the introduction and first tests,
      https://www.47-degree.com/focus-shift/leica-m-50mm-lens-comparison-part-2, the technical analysis,
https://www.47-degree.com/focus-shift/leica-m-50mm-lens-comparison-part-3, the bokeh and portrait rendering,
      https://www.47-degree.com/focus-shift/leica-m-50mm-lens-comparison-part-4, the conclusions.
The lenses in the article are, of course all 50mm:

I am offering my excellently preserved Leica Summilux 50mm f1.4 black paint with 6-bit coding. A Leica real leather quiver is also included.
The lens has no scratches, no fungus, no dust. The focus ring runs flawless and smoothly. The aperture locks in nicely and there is no oil on the aperture blades. I am not a collector and I just use my Noctilux much more often. So the good piece can change hands here.
      Insured shipping is possible.
Payment by PayPal Friends is also no problem.
The lens can also be collected in Berlin, Germany.

I must admit that since acquiring it several years ago, I do not much go to my Noctilux 50mm f/.95. My biggest disappointment is that while I really want to use it for portraiture, the minimum focusing distance is so far that I am unable to fill the screen with my subject. Instead, I must back away significantly and then crop. So, before I consider selling the beast, I thought that maybe forum members could post their favorite .95 images to persuade me otherwise.
I'll start with a photo from the .95 that I am happy with.
      Happy New Year!
