Just a quick and dirty comparison.

M9 with latest Summilux 50, F1.7, 2500ISO, 1/15 without tripod.

The first is C1 7 with default settings for noise reduction, no interventions, plain conversion to jpeg and saved for WEB, the second is C1 6, with the default values of noise reduction of C1 7 set to this conversion, no other interventions and converted the same way.

While viewing in C1 itself there were considerable differences, with 7 being the winner, but after conversion we see this:

Yes I do not see any difference either. Only thing is that in C1 6 it was a bit more work to get this, whereas in 7 the noise reduction is generated automatically from the recognition of the M9. But I see no quantum leap as PhaseOne states it.

If there is anybody who sees this differently I am eager to know

Otto, there’s two areas where CaptureOne 7’s noise control appears to be much better than CO-6’s:

1) Heavy use of Shadow Recovery on high-ISO images: CO-7 may exhibit less noise in the recovered shadows than CO-6. Also, it can recover far more.

2) With a very noisy image (e.g. ISO 2500 with Tungsten light), you can reduce both colour and luminance noise more (if you want to) than with CO-6, while retaining more detail using the Details slider.

I must say Shadow Recovery might have been what impressed me the most with this release. Here’s a 1:1 crop (ISO 800), developed in CO-6 and CO-7.

CO-6, maximum Shadow Recovery:

CO-7, maximum Shadow Recovery:

It’s quite impressive how much more you can pull out of the shadows with CaptureOne 7, without massive amounts of noise. Luminance noise reduction was set to 0, colour noise reduction to 25. In CO-6, I used 25/25 respectively.

Cheers,

Yes I see that now; in my picture the black in the background behind is a dark green bank, which remains black in 6 (or becomes unacceptably purple) and in 7 becomes dark green indeed when lightening up the shadows. This is what happens in your pictures likewise with the green curtain.

I see also that in combination with the Clarity Option there are more possibilities within an acceptable range of IQ
