Advertisement Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 Hi Samir Jahjah, Take a look here NIK software now owned by Google - what impact for Leica users?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
250swb Posted November 2, 2012 Share #2 Posted November 2, 2012 The MM software package of Silver Efex Pro is only a post processing addon, it doesn't affect the camera's functioning at all. And nearly all of the functions of Silver Efex can be done in Photoshop or Lightroom (although at the great expense of time and convoluted workflows). Leica will have a contract with Nik, which Google won't be able to break, and why would they, it is income. But even if Google didn't want tie-in's in the future how long a life will the MM have anyway? So this is hardly something to worry about. jaapv Posted November 2, 2012 Share #3 Posted November 2, 2012 Actually I started out using Siver Efex on MM files, but rapidly found it superfluous for most images. There is always the danger of having the file look overprocessed.
tobey bilek Posted November 2, 2012 Share #4 Posted November 2, 2012 I don`t like Google corporate policy on many issues. They are all about how much money they can make and they "push around " customers . They record you searches and sell your data & read your e mail and so on all to generate advertising revenue and who knows what else. I will not even use Google Search engine. Long term they will kill Nik buy turning it into a consumer toy product. Quality photography software is not their forte. Could be wrong and of course they say I am wrong. Time will tell. esquire53 Posted November 3, 2012 Share #5 Posted November 3, 2012 I wonder if this is the run by the big boys to capture as much technology there is out there. I'm not to concerned about the MM package, I think LR can give equal results, if you are not after the crazy stuff Silver FX can do. I would be more looking after the other packages like Vivenza and Color FX .. I can imagine that they are after the U point technology and the interaction between control points in Color FX and Vivenza. Maybe they had some venture capital in it and had the option to take the whole package ...
