sanyasi Posted November 2, 2012 Share #1 Posted November 2, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just saw an art exhibit where an artist painted very fine transparent curtains in full room installations. Got me to thinking about printing photos on unusual media. Has anyone considered fine wire mesh, fine sand paper, perforated paper, or other unusual media? I am assuming use of a standard inkjet printer. Any tips from experience? Thanks

dickgrafixstop Posted December 4, 2012 Share #2 Posted December 4, 2012 pretty small market potential, particularly if you're doing larger than desktop sizes. There are several alternatives with a metallic finish, but sandpaper would play havoc with your print heads - same for fine mesh screen. There are several seiko based solvent machines which have an adjustable throat for thicker materials - printing directly to PVC sheets for example - but even then the surface is reasonably smooth. If I had to print to those materials, I'd investigate dye sublimation techniques as used in fabric printing.
